Checking In on Brown Lemon

There are just too many email to keep track, but I’ve been certainly geared towards an indie rock sound today, so why not plot twist and turn towards a bit of solid electronica. Brown Lemon will release their new effort Live from Jam Jail in a few weeks, and their electronic construction is everything I love about the genre. While the snap of the drum samples give the tune a slight lift at the opening, the bass and the dancing keys do the work to build an undercurrent of bounce. Like a painting, the tune moves forward as the group layer colors and brush strokes to build the texture into this immense electronic soundscape like all the early Holodeck Records band did. Just get lost in the movement of the tune, and look for the new record on July 25th.

Orcas Announce How To Color a Thousand Mistakes

Honestly, its been a hot minute since Benoit Pioulard has made it onto the ATH pages, but with the return with his collaborative Orcas project (working with Rafael Irisarri) after years away, has me revisiting past tunes. As the duo announce How to Color a Thousand Mistakes, they promise that their ambient work will move in a more pop-centric direction, which you can certainly hear just after the 2 minute mark. Up until that moment, you have the cavernous drift of ambiance and delicate vocals, but hitting upon the bubbling charms begins to flex the song into something that almost resembles a post-punk adjacent exploration (also featuring Simon Scott of Slowdive on drums). Give this one a go, and look for the new LP on July 19th via Morr Music.

Relax With A Sudden Burst Of Colour

1658505_757755130914754_1292556940_oSo you’re struggling to get through your Friday, the week and the work day is just dragging on and on. You need something to pick you up and refresh your energy. Well, I’ve got just the thing for you and its in the form of this music video from Motherwell, Scotland’s A Sudden Burst of Colour. These lads are great at crafting instrumental tunes that may be lacking vocals, but are far from lacking depth and beauty. This video for the lead single off their forthcoming Waves Will Rise On Silent Water EP “Riptide,” has some stunning footage of, you guessed it, waves. The calming nature of this video aside, the song is a jam; it’s got the glittery percussion and hooky guitars you would expect from a band like Foals. Get through your day with this track and make sure you stick it out through the end for the build.
