Have you recovered from your weekend debauchery at ACL Fest by now? I know the ATH crew has been struggling this week, but we’re ready for more shows this weekend. Now we shared with you our thoughts about Day 1 yesterday so naturally today we’ll be discussing Day two (Saturday). We’ve got some fancy photos and a few opinions on what went down. While perusing the internets, I came across a song by Oax (pronounced Oaks) who we recently discovered opening for The Rosebuds last weekend. Digging a little deeper into the bio, it turns out that leading man Giorgio Angelini recently returned to Houston by way of NYC to pursue his master’s degree after a long stint in the music game playing bass for The Rosebuds and Bishop Allen. After a short hiatus focusing on his degree, Angelini could stay away no longer and recorded a mostly solo album (mixed at Public Hi-Fi in Austin) with guest vocals from Chris Simpson on one song and drums from Jim Eno on another. The song I picked up “Liar, Cheat, Jerk” appears on new EP The Distance which is available now on Bladen County Records. It’s sort of a Lucero meets early Wilco style that we here at ATH dig.

Considering the last week seemed sort of dull, at least in regards to live music about the town, we were really excited by the killer bill at The Parish, featuring two of our favorite acts of the moment, Other Lives and the Rosebuds–we were unaware local band O.A.X. (pronounced Oaks) was joining the night as well. As usual, the Parish had excellent sound, and air-conditioning, so it’s hard to find anything bad to say about the evening.

Currently touring behind their new and spectacular album Loud Planes Fly Low, The Rosebuds are making a stop into a great setting at The Parish on Friday night. Joining this veteran act on stage are up and coming Oklahoma boys Other Lives who are also touring behind a superb new LP. With such a stellar lineup, you really shouldn’t be missing this show.

I’m already feeling the summertime mood here in the ATH offices, and a new breezy song from from indie pop hit makers The Rosebuds. We’ve already shared with you guys new song “Second Bird of Paradise” off their upcoming LP Loud Planes Fly Low which hits streets on June 7th on Merge Records. The second taste of goodness we get to enjoy from the new record is called “Woods” and can of course be found for streaming and download below. It’s leading me to believe that this just might be the first great record for summer 2011.
