Lewsberg Announce Out and About

If you have not purchased your tickets for the Lewsberg train, might we invite you to grab one now, as they’re sure to be one of your favorite bands…plus it’ll make you feel cool for telling your friends you were into it first. Anyways, the Dutch band announce their new LP Out and About today, dropping mixes of two of the tracks that will appear on the record. “Without a Doubt” has this spritely nature to it, just shuffling in the mix as the vocals keep things joyously grounded; it’s the precise brand of no-rock pop that the group excels at crafting. Meanwhile “Communion” feels like a pastor’s sermon delivered by someone who grew up listening to all those early Flying Nun records. Can’t say enough wonderful words about this group; Out and About is out in September; self-released, but US folks can order through 12XU.

Slow Rosary Shares Montserrat

Please. Put aside six minutes of your time today. Sit somewhere quiet and listen to this new single from Slow Rosary. At first, you get this slow strum and dramatic vocals, stark in their presentation, with powerful lyrics from Rene Duplantier; the lyrical storytelling recalls the works of other literary songwriters like Meloy, Darnielle or Oberst. Progressing, the song seems to carry this undercurrent, this loneliness that swells with emotion as we all fine common ground with the tune, falling deep into the song as little flourishes begin to seep through the speakers. Just before the song hits the 4 minute mark, the tune erupts, drums roll over you and cymbals crash as the twang of the guitar wanders about your room; it feels like an album’s worth of music accomplished in just under 7 minutes. Refinery, the debut album from the project, will be out August 27th.

Gumshoe Drop New Single, Ready New LP

Athens-based Gumshoe have been penning cleverly solemn Americana since 2011, coming to the attention of many with their Christmas single, “Santa Lock Up Trump.” But, the group, led by Andy Dixon, are gearing up to release The Governor’s Brother on November 16th…and we’ve got the group’s first single from that release below. It begins as sort of a wobbly folk number, setting the scene for Dixon to enter with his deep sorrowful tones. Yet, a close ear will find that this balladeer might be more apt to make you laugh than cry, with lines like “I drink Robitussin/And play putt-putt golf.” Plus, I love the twang of the guitar that solos through the track’s latter half; it’s a nice layer of emotional depth added to the tune. Give a listen, have a laugh and relish in the joy of a good Gumshoe song.

Welcome to the Waves of the Echo

woeIf you’re looking for something that’s washed in glittery guitar lines and a coat of smoky vocals, then perhaps you should spend your day with Waves of the Echo.  While the track might seem rather soft in its opening moments (and other moments throughout) there’s a definite emphatic punch that surfs in and out during the chorus.  There’s something anthemic lurking beneath the dreamier notes here, which will have fans of pure pop music swooning all over the place. The Finnish act will be releasing their debut Fading Daylight, Bright Nights this June, so stay tuned to these pages.

New Dream Pop from Work Drugs

When I first listened to this record by Work Drugs, I thought they surely had something going with Captured Tracks; it captures that minimal sound with warm melodies and quiet vocals. But, I was wrong, as these guys are going it alone, so your best bet is to get out there and support them.  They’ve just self-released their album, Summer Blood, and you can grab it for yourself over on the group’s BANDCAMP page.  If you’re looking for something in the vein of bedroom construction to wrap up your summer, then you better get on it soon, as this band is doing a great job crafting that sound.
