Lavender Blush Announce Debut LP

It feels like Lavender Blush has been working towards this LP since their self-titled EP dropped in 2016; and now we’re prepared to hear the band’s full-length, The Garden of Inescapable Pleasure. The band toy with us for about 15 seconds, mostly getting their feet under themselves; they hit that 16 second mark and the jittering of distorted guitars immediately start rioting through your speakers. The rhythm section does a great job of building that kick-up your shoes dance floor bounce while Ryan Lescure croons atop the mix; the chorus allows him to give off a little more of a disaffected melody that kind of makes you feel like you’re spinning in circles staring at the cloudy sky. The debut LP is available this November via Shelflife, with this new single streaming everywhere on Friday!

Single Lash Drop New Single

Some bands just magically come across like they’re too big for the stage; they seem cinematic…and that’s the case with the work of Austin’s Single Lash. Sure, you could file them under shoegaze/dream pop, but there always seems like their sound is beyond mere classifications. Nicolas’ voice, for starters, has this sweeping dramatics, though the slight quivers also make him seem vulnerable; both gentle and brave. This tune also is filled with these ever so slight shifts, brimming on the verge of becoming a wall of noise, but with enough restraint to bring it back and focus on the work at hand. Just dropping this here because I love love love this band.

Waves of Dread Share Another Single

Not too far off from the release of II by Waves of Dread, and with that, we get the next single as promised. This one begins in the band’s more traditional fashion, screeching guitars shattering that noise barrier from the get-go. Still, the vocals sink back into the mix, pulling back the covers on the band’s pop sensibility. The band still find some room for sonic experimentation too, though I’m quite partial to those high-noted sparkles around the 1 minute mark. I think the promise of this EP comes with all the toying around; the band still feels very young in the grand scheme of things, so they’re all about exploration within the confines of their musical tastes…and as of now…Im right there with them.

A Shoreline Dream Announce Melting

Been a few years since we’ve heard from Colorado’s shoegaze outfit A Shoreline Dream, but they return with news of a fresh new album, Melting. Listening through this first single, I’m indulging the heavier tendencies of my listening habits; the band definitely feel like they’re toying with the heavier side of the genre, as opposed to the dreamier bits most recently popularized. I love that they still maintain a cocoon of pop sensibility, almost as if its quietly cowering as the noise swirls around overhead. Those of you looking to gaze at your shoes while noise echoes in the caverns of your ear, go ahead and pre-order Melting; it drops on August 21st.

Ringo Deathstarr Share God Help the Ones You Love

One of our favorite ATX acts dropped this delicious tune last Friday, and since we’re back in full force, it only seems natural that I’d get this Ringo Deathstarr tune out there for you. I love how the song starts off with this ominous mood, like you’re descending into the depths of the Earth with no return in sight. But, once the vocals come in, the song peels back and allows the guitars to swirl around the more crystalline feel of the vocals. The rhythm section keeps harnessing that darkness, building in the perfect balancing act between dark and light on the wondrous first single off the band’s forthcoming self-titled LP; it drops on March 27th via Club AC30.

ThunderStars Announce Number Stations

If there’s one thing I love supremely, it’s the dreamier side of guitar pop. Luckily, there’s a new act in Austin playing about by the name of ThunderStars. It’s a pretty heavy guitar tune, kind of like taking great bits of Galaxie 500 and filling in the edges with even more fuzz. The rhythm section seems to exist mostly to provide the song with a natural heartbeat, only erupting when called upon to take a little bit of a musical excursion to build some texture into the tune. It’s all the bits of all the sorts of good stuff, be it dream pop or shoegaze or just alternative; the fuzz here just curls my pop toes. They’ll be releasing their album Number Stations on January 10th.

Bright New Tune From Stray Fossa

The sun is out in Austin and I was looking this morning for some tuneage to match the bright and sunny mood here. Today I need look no further than my new amigos in Charlottesville based band Stray Fossa and their new single “It’s Nothing”. It reminds me a bit of my old pals in Grand Archives if they added some dreamy, pop elements to their sound. Clearly this band has taken a bit of a dated, overdone genre and taken it into a new avenue with a refreshing, bright and airy style.

Listen to Why Sun

I’m not sure why this Copenhagen outfit hadn’t popped up on my radar until recently, but I’m really grateful to stumble back a few weeks to the release of Frugte EP, losing myself in the immense wall of sound the Danes have built. One of the album’s standout tunes, “Traffic,” just sort of hangs out there with this drum beat, solitary and alone; then guitars being to fuzzily drift in from the left speaker; then another guitar carefully glides in through the other speaker, paving the way for the deep deep vocal tones. If you’re one of those that fancies themselves a fan of noisy shoegaze with pop sensibility, then do yourself a solid and go get lost in the music of Why Sun.

Slacker Shoegaze From bdrmm

Hailing from Hull in England, allow me to introduce one of my favorite new upstart groups bdrmm. The band manages to create their very own unique style of slacker, sludge rock combined with just a hint of shoegaze and emo stylings. Take for example this new song “Question Mark” which is a slow burning jam which will draw you in and keep you listening for the full 6 minutes. I’ve hit play upwards of 5 times on this one today and I find myself totally entranced and sucked in. Hope you enjoy it as well.

This song appears on a new Singles Club release from UK label Sonic Cathedral which can be purchased now.

TARA Has Something Special

TARA are in the midst of a five single cycle, dropping a track ever so often, and below we have the second of those five, perfectly letting you drift far off into the weekend. It’s almost like a post-rock piece, fuzzy and awash with these ambient guitar sounds while the rhythm section sort of propels us all forward. Wes Deimling’s voice is lighter than air, almost added as a textural element to really build the song’s depth. It’s a hypnotic number that flirts with a plethora of genres, ultimately just landing in the realm of great pop music that hopefully keeps you coming back for more.
