Last Week’s Jams (1.23 – 1.27)

We’d like to formally apologize for some outages last week. One was our old server, the other was the process of switching 15 years (!) of writing and such over to a new server. But, we definitely still ran a ton of tunes, you just might not have been able to hear them all! So, let’s rectify that with our weekly playlist. Ran a premiere for a fresh track from Animal Scream off their new LP, plus we were excited by another new Whitney’s Playground track. Personally, I liked the babybaby_explores single a ton, despite that name driving me nuts. RayRay ran a Bratty tune to get you excited for the return of Austin Psych Fest. Plus, I had to throw in a Tom Verlaine track, as it just feels right; RIP sir.

Sid Steppes Shares Night Turns Into Day

Feel like nothing is needed more on a Monday morning than a good driving rocker, such as the tune below we’ve got from Sid Steppes. It begins in unassuming fashion, faint hints of fuzz hanging out on the edges of the tune. Once that pedal drops in, you get the full weight of those heavy riffs burrowing into your eardrums; it’s exactly the style that made everyone swoon over Ty Segall, so if that’s your fit, might I suggest turning this up loud and letting it rip. If you dig on it, Sid also just dropped In Recent Memory, a full collection of tunes for you to enjoy.

Another Gem From Sid Steppes

Another week, another track from Sid Steppes, apparently! Last week, Nathan shared this number from the SoCal artist, and this new one, “Keep in Touch,” has me grooving along as well, so I figured we’d keep the love going. This track is all at once to simple and yet so vastly layered that you’ll find yourself lost in the bedroom psych as you zone out watching the changing landscape of the video. The drums ground you in the tune while the guitar and Steppes’ hazy vocals duel for the spotlight. Make sure Sid Steppes is on your radar for the future and lookout for his new album,Trails, which will be out on May 31.

Sid Steppes Shares New Video

Sid Steppes may not be a household name just yet, and perhaps that’s not what he’s after. But, having spent some time with his new single, I’m completely caught off guard by how blissful it is. It’s this weird place where I draw comparisons to Bowie or Spaceman, though perhaps that also gets tied in through the video’s space footage. It all works so well, giving off that impression that we’re just sort of drifting through our life at the moment; I’m perplexed at how such a new artist can pull all this together in one perfect little nugget for listeners. His new album Trails will be out on May 31st, if you’re as interested to see what’s coming next as I am.
