Tuesday night one of our newest writers Mairin Heard made it over to Stubbs for a set by electro-duo Chromeo. Apparently the show was a hit as most people had nothing but good things to say. Mairin has a review and some fancy photos after the jump. Check it out.

Tuesday night is a busy night for music in Austin and a show by Chromeo at Stubbs should be tops on your list of choices. The DJ/band duo will of course be backed by a full band so the show will be more than just a DJ set for sure. Joining the band on stage you’ve got Holy Ghost! and Telephoned. The evening began for me with a nice warm-up sweat over at the Mohawk, but I really enjoyed the Minitature Tigers latest album, Fortress, so I rushed over to Stubbs to make sure I caught their set. ATH Interviews: Chromeo

A couple days ago, we had the great opportunity to speak with the Montreal electronic duo known as Chromeo. Our interview was set up to preview the group’s upcoming show they have going down at Stubbs on August 24th. We all set out to brave a warm evening in Austin, looking forward to catching the greatness that is the New Pornographers. Accompanying the band on this summer night was Imaad Wasif and The Dodos. While we were excited to see all the bands, it was clear that everyone’s anticipation was geared towards the Canadian outfit. Follow the jump for more.

A long time favorite of everyone in the ATH offices, The New Pornographers, are making a highly anticipated stop at Stubbs Friday evening in Austin. In better news, The Dodos will be supporting the group on this leg of their tour. Hooray! I’d also recommend getting to the show early to catch solid opener Imaad Wasif as well.

Show Review: Silversun Pickups @ Stubbs (7/19)

As I prepared for my evening at Stubbs, I pored through several different albums. A few tracks from Silversun Pickups, all the Against Me, and the solid new album from Henry Clay People. I didn’t know what to expect necessarily, caught in nostalgia for my punk days, but not so amped for the main course. Still, I love a good live show, so I just had to be there. Well, I’ll be honest, Silversun Pickups is not necessarily my cup of tea; I mean, there are a few catchy songs, but overall, it just doesn’t do it for me. I will tell you that in going to this show, I’m really excited for the two opening bands. Against Me is bringing their punk goes electric sounds to the stage as the middle act, and killer nice guys in Henry Clay People will bring their own hot tracks to the stage as the opening band. Luckily, you can catch HCP at Waterloo Records on the day of the show at 5 PM for free, and we suggest you make it out there, as they’re a band you need to check out.
