SXSW Interview: The National Parks

I wasn’t kidding when I said multiple interviews would be coming soon highlighting some of the bands coming to SXSW in a couple weeks. This year I sent out questions to any band interested, even if the band was totally unfamiliar to me prior to the interview or their style wasnt necessarily my favorite. I figure this will allow for more exposure and interesting responses from a wider variety of artists. Today we continue our ongoing effort to provide you interesting SXSW interviews with indie folk band The National Parks. Hit the jump to see whats what.

Noisey New Pop Number From Dead Leaf Echo

As if I wasn’t already excited enough for Brooklyn based Dead Leaf Echo to be heading into town for SXSW, I now have this new single to grow my anticipation. As usual, these guys bring a noisy, shoegaze pop sound worthy ofall the current greats in the genre. Not surprising when each band member has a history of greatness in bands like Wax Idols, My Bloody Valentine, No Joy, etc. Get ready.

Dead Leaf Echo will release a new EP entitled Strawberry Skin on March 31st via Papercup Music.

Annabel Allum Gets Gritty (SXSW Artist)

Stick around on this tune passed the first thirty seconds; you’ll be in for a nice little treat. While this new Annabel Allum tune begins with a pretty little serenade, it quickly plugs into the amps, stamps down on the pedal and lets loose. She manages to take her folk traditions into the heavy guitar pop realm. That being said, I really love the chorus, as I feel like the notes hit on “rich backgrounds/rich fucking backgrounds” is a perfect delivery, and I can’t get it out of my head! She’s coming to Austin, and I’m ready to put her on my list of must see acts.

SXSW Interview: The Spook School

I adore the Spook School; I followed them around all of last SXSW, caught them at least 7 times. Today we continue our coverage by catching up with the band before they cross the Atlantic and make their way back into our hearts. Jump on and get a little introduction to the band, and be sure to guide them to the Vegan hotspots in Austin. Be sure to stream the gem from Continental Drift hanging at the end, featuring some of the best indiepop on any continent. Read more
