SxSW Wristbands Tomorrow!

sxsw-music-logoYou can get your SxSW Music wristbands tomorrow. Same rules as usual – Austin area billing zip code for your plastic, you can buy two wristbands but have to provide the names, you’ll need photo IDs to pick up your wristband which will get snapped on at the start of the conference.

For your $169, you will get access to any venue not at capacity aside from the few showcases that are badge only. I used a wristband last year to get away from FOMO and it was bliss. Go check out someone you have never seen instead of getting barraged by Dorito Taco Loco.

On sale January 22nd at 10am (ATX time), Click here.

Second Round of SxSW Music Artists

sxsw-music-logoIt is time to share the next big batch of bands and people and things that the masses will be chasing from venue to venue and between day-party tents during SxSW.

It still feels too far away to get excited, yet I get a flutter. THere are some pretty good names on the list, including local faves, ATH faves and some good touring acts that otherwise may not be in town. In no particular (alphabetical), here are some highlights: Beat Connection, The Cribs, The Districts, EX-Cult, Gang of Four, King TUff, Nikki Lane, Mirror Travel, My Jerusalem, Pujol, Sophie, Surfer Blood, SURVIVE, Ting Tings, Twin Shadow, Yukon Blonde and Yumi Zouma. One kind of cool thing SxSW is doing now is SxSW fm and they have a “podcast” on Soundcloud as a preview of this round of artists. Check it out below and head past the break for the full list. #itisaconference #notafestival

SXSW 2014 Interview: The Mary Onettes

the-mary-onettes-Gunnar-BjörlingThe madness that is SXSW is upon us, and as we ready ourselves and our livers, we’ve got another interview featuring one of our favorite bands, The Mary Onettes.  The Swedish act has had mild success in the States, but their new music is really building a solid name for the band over here, so we hope that this little introduction encourages you to get on board with us.  If you do catch them…be sure to get one of those t-shirts.  Read more

SXSW Interviews: The Ghost Wolves

BP Fallon and the Ghost Wolves

As we pump out more interviews leading up to SXSW, let us not forget our local friends who will be working hard all over town just like everyone else.  One of our favorite up and comers in Austin has be garage/blues band Ghost Wolves.  Drummer and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Konya was kind enough to offer up his opinion on all things SXSW.  Follow the jump to read his responses.

New Music from Guantanamo Baywatch (SXSW Act)

gbAh, yes, it’s time for the Suicide Squeeze Singles to start rolling out, and they’re starting with a bang.  Their new series begins with a split between ATH favorites Shannon and the Clams and Guantanamo Baywatch.  Last time I heard from GB, they were rocking a sweaty punk style, but this new jam seems like the perfect fit for a shared 7″ with Shannon.  It’s a country-tied garage jam with a slow pace and lyrics that will allow you optimal sing-a-long fun.  This single will hit stores on April 29th, but you can catch the band playing throughout Austin during SXSW, including the SS Party with our friends at Hardly Art on March 14th.

SXSW Party: Fleeting Youth Records Showcase @ The Owl (3/13)

FYR_SXSW_PARTY

We here at ATH tend to stay away from overloading you with information about SXSW parties, shows, free booze, etc.  If you need that sort of info, I’d recommend showlistaustin or maybe even Do512.  Now what we will do is post about a show when shameless self-promotion is needed.  Today we’re happy to announce a show we (kind of) helped put on with our good friends over at Fleeting Youth Records and Modern Vinyl.  Local and national talent fill the lineup, free booze is included, and of course no silly badge is required.  More deets:

Show time: 2pm – 2am

Location: The Owl Gallery

Lineup: Habits, Clouder, Mumblr, Krill, LA Font, Big Bill, Gunther Doug, Two Inch Astronaut, Grass is Green, Butter the Children, Basketball Shorts, Ghost Wolves, The Chelsea Kills, Bent Shapes

We’ve profiled quite a few of these artists via our SXSW interviews which can be read here.  More info on the Event page.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Boogarins

crop_630 (1)Today’s SXSW Interview comes to you via Brazilian band, Boogarins.  While the country is often known for its tropicalia and dance stylings, you’ll get something a little bit different from these lads; they’ve got a composition that compiles varying elements of loops and sounds into a tightly-knit piece of psych-pop for their album As Plantas Que Curam..a must listen in my book. We’re definitely excited to catch these guys, and maybe even talk a little bit of football (South American style); here’s the responses from Benke. Read more
