Pump Your Fists with Audacity

tumblr_inline_mj08bavIaS1qz4rgpWe have to kick off Monday with a bang, right? I couldn’t think of a better way than to toss out this bouncing rocker from Audacity.  It’s got everything you need to get your day started: hard-hitting drums, catchy lyrics and bad-assery.  They’ll be releasing their Finders Keepers 7″ on Suicide Squeeze Records on March 25th, before a full-length record comes out later in 2013.  I like the way things are kicking off 2013 for these guys, and you’re all going to fall in love with their sound, I promise.  Have fun boys and girls, this is Audacity.  Oh, and they’ll be doing that SXSW thing, so if you dig, find em’ here in Austin.

ATH & SXSW: 10 Rules To Not Screw This Up

sxswguide

It’s SXSW time again, and I’m already overloaded with party emails, bands needing shows, and the multitude of band submissions that come our way this time of year. Another thing I’ve always noticed, is the multitude of sites offering their very own “SXSW Guide”, “SXSW Survival Tips”, or some other mumbo jumbo to that extent. Well today ATH is jumping into that game with our very own SXSW rules to live by. Now this isn’t your typical list, as we always try to tell it like it is despite who we may piss off. So stop RSVPing to all of those parties and check out the ATH guide to not screwing this up. Follow the jump for more.

ATH & SXSW: 3 To Watch

sxsw-&-athWe ATH crew are here to make sure you don’t completely screw up this whole SXSW thing and hate yourself for doing so.  Now we realize that every website in the nation shares some musical advice on the festival itself, but we like to think that we can offer you our opinions in condensed, easy to read versions.  Our policy has always been to only post things we like, and we promise to continue doing that.  We’ll be spending the next week or so fulfilling our promise with some SXSW artist to watch, 3 at a time.  I’ll start things off today by telling you a bit about 3 bands I deem worthy of your time.  Follow the jump for more.

For current show postings, keep in mind that it’s still early and many shows have yet to be announced.  We will post what we can find at this point. Read more

ATH & SXSW: Spotify Playlist

logoIt’s hard to believe, but SXSW is officially upon us in a couple of weeks and we’re here to try and keep you as informed as we can until then.  An easy way for us to do that is with a handy dandy playlist over on Spotify featuring some of the bands we think you should pay attention to during the week.  Sure the playlist has a ton of songs, but you can skip the ones you don’t like right?  If you think we missed something big, you’re free to let us know in the comments section.  We’ll be bringing you some artist spotlights real soon.

Synth Heavy Pop From Night Panther

nightpanther

It’s rare that a band gets as much coverage on this site as has our favorite Pennsylvania synth heavy groove pop band Night Panther.  A quick search on the site and you’re sure to pull up a slew of hits featuring the band’s noteworthy tunes.  Since we’ve said just about all we can at this point, I’ll let the music do the talking this time with this sweet groove “Lioness”.  The band still hasn’t given us an official release date for their upcoming debut LP, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Also, Night Panther will be joining the masses during SXSW so you should be sure to check them out if you’re in town.

SxSW Releases Music Schedule

We tweeted out earlier that SxSW released the last batch of wristbands other than the week-ofs that we be available at Waterloo and a few of the venues.

Along with those, other big news landed with the formal release of the Music schedule. You can now peruse the lineups, start stalking artists and getting in line for the big artists at the small venues. The other cool thing is to see the little suspect gaps in venue nightly lineups, such as the hour before The Polyphonic Spree at Red7 Tuesday.

News announcement here. Play with your schedule here.

Dance Yrself Clean with Sensual Harassment

1166The most important thing about kicking things off on a Monday morning is to get things going in the right direction, and I think this tune from Sensual Harassment will do just the trick for you.  This Brooklyn duo has a new EP titled Escape From Alpha Draconis coming out on Tuesday (it’s free if you trade your email), and based on this it’s going to be filled with danceable hits to get your weekend parties started.  If you like what you’re hearing, you can check out the band on a brief little tour as they make their way into Austin for a stint at our little festival, SXSW.

Desert Rock from Deconstruction Unit

dunit_colore6d46575a465It’s interesting to see the interest in the heavier side of music again, especially considering the dull releases of late 90s metal.  One of the group’s that recently caught my attention was Deconstruction Unit, due to the group’s history with Jay Reatard.  While the guitar work has a dark-tinged garage feeling to it (bleeding into psychedelia) the vocals have this historic Danzig quality to them, which is fitting with the group’s home near the Arizona desert. They’ll be releasing their Void LP on February 19th via Jolly Dream Records before heading out on the road to tour with Milk Music; they will also be making their way through Austin during SXSW and Chaos in Tejas.

The Besnard Lakes Are In The Sticks

Mentioned yesterday that I was geeked to see The Besnard Lakes. They also happened to release a teaser track from the new album Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO due in April on Jagjaguwar.

“People of the Sticks” is a gorgeous and flowing piece that pendulums away from the stadium and closer to gaze, but we’ll wait to see what’s what for the overall feel of the album when it is released. They certainly were a favorite of mine from SxSW a few years back so I will be stalking them from the best day parties all the way to their big showcase.

No download available yet. Hopefully the Youtube embed doesn’t offend (or use ATH radio up over there)…

SxSW 2013 – Over 1,000 Bands

SxSW just announced another chunk of bands, around 200 more. This latest group is probably the best of the bunch. You want some highlights for the sets you’ll be jumping fences for this spring break?

A few that jump out for me…

Alah-Las, The Besnard Lakes, Black Lips, Camera Obscura, The Ettes, Fol Chen, Frightened Rabbit, Joywave, Lemuria, Local Natives, Calvin Love, Psychic Twin, Pure Bathing Culture, Races, Royal Teeth, Snowmine, The Thermals, Useless Eaters, Chad Valley, Vampy Weeks, Wax Idols
