RVG Announce Brain Worms + Share New Single

I’ve been high upon RVG since I first stumbled upon A Quality of Mercy, and now that there’s officially a new record on the calendar, I’m ramping up my support once again. Based upon this first single, the group seems to have picked up where Feral left us, taking giant steps into huge anthemic pop rock, with just a few more hints at some sheen and polish coming through on the new record’s first single. The guitars drive the tune forward, but you can clearly hear the passion in Romy’s vocals, which I can’t wait to hear when its live at this year’s SXSW festival; it’s one of the things that makes this band so captivating. Really stoked to hear where Brain Worms takes; it drops in June via Fire Records.

Meet the SXSW Band: Pendant

As we mentioned in our premiere post yesterday, that ‘lil festival called SXSW is going down in just a few short weeks and we at ATH are trying to support bands and artists as best we know how. Before we head to their shows and buy some merch, the best thing we can do is simply talk to the artists and get their varied perspective on what it means to play SXSW. Today I am thrilled to be sharing the next artist in our series, PENDANT, which is the musical moniker for Los Angeles based recording artist Christopher Adams. He offered some truly thoughtful and detailed insight into the festival. See his response along with tunes and current show dates after the jump.

Meet the SXSW Band: Dream, Ivory

Well SXSW has somehow snuck up on us once again and things will be kicking off in less than a month now with the usual mass influx of artists coming to town. I’m sure everyone has heard the chatter this year about artist fair pay, and we totally support the movement in full, but in the immediate future we have bands coming to town, and we want show our support however we can. One way we can do that as a music site is to give them a platform to introduce themselves and even get their opinion on the fight for fair pay. Today we are kicking off our initial coverage with an introduction and interview featuring SoCal based band Dream, Ivory. Hit the jump for interview, music, and initial set times.

Constant Smiles Share Gold Like Water

This new Constant Smiles stuff is sounding pretty spot on, in terms of where my listening brain is at currently. It’s just really subtle, well-executed pop songwriting, just a bit left of the dial. That light keyboard bounce that trickles in atop the bubbling beat is perfect; it creates this realm of relaxation, allowing me to sit back and let the song wash over “like water.” When the vocals cruise in, they’re lapping at your toes as you stand ashore, nipping at you with little twinkling melodies. A little percussive mix-up offers just enough differentiation to keep the song rolling interestingly along, particularly as more accompaniment pieces flutter in from the background. The band release Kenneth Anger on March 3rd via Sacred Bones, with some dates throughout March, including a stop at SXSW.

ViVii Drop New Single, Vegas

One of the acts Brian and I really enjoyed at SXSW was Swedish trio ViVii; they offered up a dreamy brand of pop that actually felt like it was crafted in Texas. You can hear that in the band’s new single, particularly in the way the vocals seem to tumble across the track like weeds out on West Texas roads. Musically, things back up that approach, with guitar notes bending and turning, all the while hitting those crisp notes that feel like Summertime. It’s a nice little dreamy dose of pop from an act we’re really enjoying; keep an eye out for their new MaviDavilon EP, out June 3rd.

SXSW Superlative Awards

SXSW came back with a vengeance, for better or for worse. Personally, it was for better, but that’s a limited view, I know. So I reckon I’d share some thoughts and hand out a few awards here and there, that way you know where we were and who we loved. …in case that actually matters.
