ACL is over, and FFF Fest is on the horizon, but it’s Austin, so there’s always plenty of things going on, musically speaking. The dudes in TV Torso have been hard at work recording various tunes over the last year, and we finally get a chance to hear some of their efforts paying off. This tune comes from Clear Lake Strangler, which is a short EP the group currently has to offer HERE for the NYOP special. This particular tune has a straight-forward edge with a vocal that I’m really attached to today. I have a feeling this is just a short preview of the great stuff they have coming our way in the very near future. The group will be releasing their new CD at Hotel Vegas this Saturday night in Austin with some other great locals, so be sure to show your local love.

The former Pavement singer/guitarist returned to Austin at the newly renovated Mohawk, but he was here to promote Mirror Traffic–no hopes of Pavement songs! Local boys TV Torso opened up the gig, and Nurses were the middling act on a pretty laid back evening over at the Mohawk.

It’s not like Stephen Malkmus really needs much of an introduction, or really needs to hand out incentives to come see his show at Mohawk on Wednesday. He’s the main man from Pavement, who has carefully crafted a nice solo career since then. You should go, period. But, you can also catch two great opening acts on the evening, Nurses and TV Torso. TV Torso are our local boys, banging out solidified indie rock tunes that stick in your head and echo in your ears. Nurses put out Draclua last year, a stunner of an album that really had the band turning heads…so get there to witness then in their glory. Two great opening acts and an indie legend. Need we say more?

New Years Eve is upon us, and I doubt any of you people have really solid plans for what you’re doing to celebrate. Well, let us assist you in that department with news of a party we’re helping sponsor going down at Cheer Up Charlies on the East Side. The show features an awesome “locals only” line-up in the form of Gold Spine, TV Torso, Ringo Deathstarr, Young Girls, Marmalakes, Sleep Good, The Zoltars, The Sour Notes and a Mouthfeel DJ set to end the night. Giveaways will also be handed out out in between each set by Fricano’s Deli, Strut Boutique, Birds Barbershop, Tiffs Treats, and The Highball. One helluva show is going down at Antone’s Saturday night headlined by Austin veterans White Denim. To make the show completely local, and more enticing to you, the bill includes upcoming taletnts TV Torso, Not in the Face, and Watch Out For Rockets. First show at Stubb’s of the 2011 Season for me and it was a good one. The Walkmen brought the Head and the Heart along and had TV Torso do the opening honors. There were some changes to the gravel pit, over the quiet period. More on that and the show after the break…

A night that many of us have been looking forward to for quite some time has finally come with the Walkmen show at Stubbs on Friday night. Opening support for the night will be provided by The Head and The Heart and Austin’s very own up and comers TV Torso. Making the night even more enticing is a set by friends of ATH Whitman on the inside stage immediately after the Walkmen finish up outside. More good news is that you’ll get in free to the Whitman show with a wristband from the outside show. Make a night of it people.
