Dreamy Pop from Beach Baby

beachbaby-SONG_ARTThis tune flew into my inbox yesterday and definitely added a dosage of chilling out that I greatly needed.  It’s the work of Beach Baby, a recently new arrival on the UK scene.  Their music lives somewhere in that spectrum between bedroom dream pop and indiepop goodness; there are soft vocals in a relaxed presentation.  That being said, I definitely see some room for the band to unleash a bit of live fury, should they choose to do so.  Look for their single to get more love as the band moves forward, with the single slated for a March release date.

Yak Give us Something Special

unnamedI know very little about London based rockers Yak, but this matters little when a band can pump out a debut single as memorable as this one.  Is it psych rock?  Is it punk rock?  I’ll let you call it whatever you like if you just hit play and enjoy.  I’m sure we will be hearing more from this trio as the buzz grows.

This track will appear on a new 7″ single coming out on February 24th via Fat Possum.

Get a LIFE

LIFEOkay. I really meant to throw the word digital single in there; I promise.  LIFE is a UK act that’s bracing for their invasion of the US, this week releasing their first single Stateside this week.  I’m going to post both the songs from the single, as I think they embrace two sides of a young band.  One, offers an up beat number that recalls that one good song from The Vaccines; it’s immediately catchy with a huge sound for pop fans.  The flip side of the coin is a grittier track that has more of a guitar pop feel; it’s probably more ambitious in construction than the other tune, so it’s my pick of the two, though I’m enjoying both.  Get ready to get a LIFE.

Furrow is my Jam

10575140_727232720682711_5461754013417150931_oUgh. I’m really in a rock n’ roll mood as of late.  I’m just tired of the indie rock tropes, so I just want something I can turn up really loud…today it just happens to be Furrow.  The UK act have recently released their West Felton LP via Bleeding Gold Records, and this tune is probably one of my favorites.  Starting slow, it picks up pretty quickly with this fuzzy riff and bouncing drum beat; vocals are shouted our way with a bit of ferocity. It’s simple in the grand scheme of things, but often those are the things that blow me away the most.  Give this a whirl folks.

Say Hello to Neil Jarvis

artworks-000088654717-klelia-t500x500I’ll admit that prior to today I knew almost nothing about Manchester based artist Neil Jarvis.  Though I still know very little about the guy, I do know that his music is worthy of a few spins and moments of your time.  Check out his latest single called “Good Years” below to see what I’m fussing about.  The track is certainly in the shoe gaze genre with a nice breeze and flow to the washed out guitars and almost beach like vibe.  If you’re into it, Jarvis just release a new LP entitled Halloween Summer on UK based On the Grind Records.  Pick that up here.

New Song from The Black Tambourines

10321639_955360484521740_5025471425869622889_oI’ve been keeping my eye on this UK act for some time, as they seemed to have something…that something special.  On this tune,The Black Tambourines still have that vibrant energy I adored when I first tune in to their music, but to a certain degree, they’ve gone in a different direction than I expected.  The guitar work is still pretty strong, and I definitely appreciate the tenacity, yet this track feels safe.  It’s got energy and style, but we’ll have to wait until their new album is completely finished before we hear how this song fits into the fold.  Until then.

As I’m scrolling through the upcoming shows this week, I stumbled across this great bill at Mohawk on Wednesday that I must have forgotten about.  Headlining the loaded bill is longtime ATH favorite UK rockers The Crookes.  Joining the guys on the bill are fellow ATH favorite Young Buffalo and local artist Stoney.  This should make for a great middle of the week show to start your weekend early.  See you there?

Fresh Music from Bleeding Gold Records

furrowFeel like I should devote more time today to the work of Bleeding Gold Records, so I’ll post their other song from their announcements this week, too!  This number comes from Furrow, and it’s a little bit grittier, at least in regards to production.  The vocals/lyrics don’t offer much, as they seem more like distant chants, or shouting, but the way the guitar sounds really hooked me on this track.  The group is working on their new release, West Felton, and in the meantime they’ve offered up this great single, which I think a lot of people will really enjoy. Give it a go.

New Music from Only Real

onlySeems to me that the Brits are on to something with their vocal affectation cooly creeping over excellent guitar work.  First we had King Krule, and now we’ve got another ginger, Niall Gavin, who works under the name Only Real.  He’s celebrating his recent signing to Harvest Records by releasing this new single, featuring some atmospherics touches washing over his wobbly pop guitar lines.  At times his delivery approaches a bit of a spoke-word rap, but it fits well into the confines of this track.  Give it a whirl and see what all the folks overseas are raving about.

New Music from Cloud Boat

cloudboatWhen Cloud Boat released their debut album back in 2013 there was a lot of acclaim for the group on the overseas hype machine, so it’s surprising to see the group return so quickly.  Their new offering  is definitely something to spend some time with today, filled with dense instrumentation and a gentle vocal topping the band’s work.  It’s interesting to me, as I don’t really hear a lot of bands crafting music such as this at the moment; then again, I’ve been on a rock n’ roll kick as of late.  It’s definitely a strong step forward for the UK act, and only time will tell how they continue to grow.
