Fun Ditty from The Creases

creasesPop fans you’re going to love this song.  It’s the latest single from Brisbane act, The Creases, and it’s a simple bit of fun to help get you through this Hump Day, in case the Netherlands/Aussie game isn’t doing it for you. It sort of reminds me of the early Vaccines, using simplicity to provide infectious hooks that will have you humming along (until you get the hang of the words).  This number will be featured on their Gradient EP; it’s being released by Liberation Music on the 25th of July.  Also, check out their new video to accompany the song HERE.

Jangling Post Rock from Lower

lowerShifting guitars open up this track with a bit of a jangling ring, before the brooding kicks in from Lower.  That brooding comes in via the dark croon of the vocals, with just a faint hint of a pleasant meldoy hiding at the end of each syllable.  Meanwhile, the guitars are still ringing and the drums are pounding; it creates a pretty striking effect, making all of us at ATH on alert for the release of the band’s debut album, Seek Warmer Climes; it’ll be out on June 17th via Matador.  Here’s a video for the below single: VIDEO.

New Music from Gim Kordon

Gim-Kordon1-750x491I’ll pretty much stand by the quality work of the folks over at Soliti Music, the Finnish label that’s been pretty consistent with releases over the last few years. Up until now, the majority of the works they’ve released have had English lyrics, but not this track from Gim Kordon.  But, that being said, the music alone is pretty special, encouraging me to play it over and over today.  Their debut album Ei Ole Helppoo will be out on the label on May 9th, and if you want to partake in the wordily religion of rock n’ roll, then give this tune a thorough listen.  You can also check out a pretty rad video for the single HERE.

New Music from Donovan Blanc

1495173_227447864094491_1757161589_oI’m admittedly a huge fan of the work that Captured Tracks does, be it their reissues or their general tastes in music.  Their recent signing of Donovan Blanc is yet another band that confirms my allegiance to the label.  It’s got a mood that’s crafted by the melding of the guitars and the vocals, leaving your spirits up-lifted.  The band will be releasing their self-titled debut on the label on June 24th, giving us all a little bit of something to look forward to as the summer heat draws near. There’s a simple little video to go with it HERE.

Another New Track from Amen Dunes

amenFeels like Thursdays always end up dragging on, and I guess I’ll help contribute to that by adding another mellow track to our list.  This time it’s another new tune from Amen Dunes, who are preparing to release their album, Love.  This tune hear has a really soft bit of instrumentation, with a vocal that is drawn out in a semi-drawl.  Honestly, it’s a voice you might have to grow accustomed to, though I can similarities between it and the likes of Cave Singers and Devandra Banhart…both artists we adore.  The album will be released on May 13th via Sacred Bones Records, and you’ll also be able to enjoy the video that accompanies this song HERE.

Dirty Pop from Favored Nations

favoredNow that SXSW is over, it’s funny that I should get blasted into some of my favorite SXSW memories via a post involving former Diamond Nights member Morgan.  His new band, Favored Nations is a blend between Chromeo and Phoenix, offering these throwback pop songs that are geared towards lighting up the dance floors.  But, since Morgan’s at the helm, you’ll find some dirty lyrics, whether they’re truly referencing “Regular Pussy” or not will be up to you to decide.  While we all wait for the band to finish up their album, you can also check out THIS VIDEO that accompanies the tune below.

New Tunes from Majical Cloudz

devonDevon Welsh has one of the most striking voices in the current music scene.  I’ve watched him silence crowds notoriously known for being noisy, and I’ve let his voice haunt my listening habits for the last year or so.  His album Impersonator was our #1 choice for Top 2013 Albums, and I can’t wait for his next outing.  To hold us over, he’s unleashed a great interactive video to accompany his brand new song, which you’ll find HERE.  At the moment, I’m pretty sure that there’s not a whole lot Majical Cloudz can do to sway us away from our supreme fandom.  You can also listen to the tune below….and wait patiently for the next genius release from the act.

Fresh Indiepop Hit from Alpaca Sports

alpaca_press_albumThe works of Alpaca Sports are not new to the pages of our site, so it seems fitting that we just kick off a Tuesday full of great jams by offering you a listen at a brand new track from the band. This new track has a casual feel, though there’s still that uplifting bounce to it, with the lyrical content comparing the narrator to some guy named Johnny Marr.  You can check out a video of the song right HERE, plus you’ll be happy to know that the band’s preparing their debut, Sealed with a Kiss, for a February 24th release date.  With songs like this coming out left and right, this is my favorite February ever.

Austin Spotlight: Orthy Releases Video for E.M.I.L.Y.

OrthyWe’ve run this jam before, but seeing as we love Orthy, it only serves you that we post it again, now that the track has been mastered and given the video treatment it deserves.  It’s especially important as our local favorite has plans to release the E.M.I.L.Y. EP on January 21st via Dither Down Records; we havent’ even heard the whole thing yet, and already it’s sneaking into our lists for next year.  The songs on this EP represent Ian’s love for his wife, which is a sentiment I hope many of you can understand, allowing you relate not only to the great music, but the subject matter as well.  You can stream the new video HERE or click post the break for embedded goodness, and if you’re free this weekend, the band will be playing at Mohawk with Auto Body Saturday night.
