ACL Interview: Waters

watersHere we are peeps, ACL is now a few short days away and I hope everyone is ready and raring to go in the heat.  The ATH crew is certainly amped for the weekend while we struggle to survive the long work week ahead prior to all the fun times.  Today I’m excited to be continuing our ACL coverage with a nice interview from ATH approved band Waters.  Leading man and creator of the group Van Perszaowski offers up the responses.  Hit the jump for more.

Impressive New Track From Waters

avatars-000070057974-bskxc8-t500x500Stop whatever you’re doing right now and hit play on this incredible new song by Waters.  Do it.  Now.  This one would definitely be called the opposite of a slow burner as it immediately draws you in with loud, power pop tendencies.  When the track ends, I’m finding that I want to hit play again as fast as I can.  Great tune from what is sure to be a great release this fall.

This track appears on a new EP entitled It All Might be Okay due out October 14th on Vagrant.

New Offbeat Pop From CHURCHES

CHURCHES released a self-titled debut EP earlier this year that created a lot of buzz in the music blogging world.  All that buzz has created a small following for the band, so many are getting excited for this new song “Lovelife” that’s been spreading on the internet as of late.  It’s sort of an offbeat pop number that has some nice rising action when it breaks into the anthemic chorus.  We sure hope you enjoy it too.

This song is the A-side to a 7″ single coming out on December 11th.

Show Pics: Nada Surf @ La Zona Rosa (6/29)

Third show of the week was at La Zona Rosa. Had to run solo for this one, made it easy to get through the crowd, my stage space locked down by a Lone Star bribe to a group of people in town from all over Texas to see Nada Surf together; no photo pit, but still a three song limit.

We were treated to Austin’s The Zoltars and San Fran’s Waters as openers before Nada Surf played a twenty-three song set.

More after the jump…

Hazy New Track from White Birds

Last fall I caught wind of this great band, White Birds, a Philly group that was creating lush pop music with a nice coat of fog.  Just this past weekend the band released a new track from their debut, When Women Played Drums, which unfortunately will be on a limited cassette release.  Again, they come at us with this really steady pop, with the vocals run through this wash of noise…it sort of reminds me of what I would expect a mello Arcade Fire to come off as if they recorded in the midst of a windstorm.  I don’t know, it’s quiet and gentle, and perfect for my chilled out afternoon jamming.

Show Preview: Mister Heavenly @ the Mohawk (8/30)

Date Tuesday, August 30th
Location Mohawk
Doors 6:30 PM
Tickets $11 from Frontgate

It seems like it wasn’t too long ago that the boys in Mister Heavenly were here, mostly because I saw them several times, each time hoping the girls would stop taking photos of one Mr. Cera. The group just released their album Out of Love a few weeks back, and it seems like the press in general have appreciated the combination of Honus Honus and Nic Diamonds. Both guys can rock a crowd like few others, so forget about Michael Cera, and just go to the show because it’s got great indie rock from established vets.  Waters will open up the evening, so we expect to see you there.

New Tunes from WATERS

You might know Van Pierszalowski from Port O’ Brien, but he’s beginning to make waves of his own under the name of WATERS. He’s already tossed out one tune earlier this year, and now here comes another stunner from the songwriter, prepping for his debut, Out in the Light, which comes out via TBD Records on September 20th. His voice seems to waiver just the slightest bit, giving a hint of an edge to the gentle track that slowly begins to unfold.  It’s like a more pristine Mile Benjamin Anthony Robinson, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Enjoy this number.

New Music From WATERS

After the demise of Port O’Brien last year, founding member Van Peirszalowski began a new project under the name WATERS to serve as an outlet for his songwriting.  While traveling the world, Van wrote tons of material and then returned to Oslo, Norway to put a band together to rehearse his new material.  Subsequently after, this new band went into the studio in Dallas, TX and produced an album’s worth of material entitled Out in the Light.  First single from that new album “For the One” can be found below.  You can get your hand on this new LP September 20th on TBD Records.
