Fun Fest weekend is here kids and ATH is just about ready to kick this thing into high gear. Before we wrap up our pre-festival coverage, we’ve got one more interview coming your way from one of our favorite all time Austin bands Mineral. Founding father and vocalist Chris Simpson was nice enough to answer some of our tough questions. It’s a slow week in the Austin music scene, so you better catch on to the good shows while they’re here. These United States will bring their energetic pop tunes, which we’ve talked to you about before, to Austin this Tuesday night. They’ll be taking the stage with local bands Zookeeper and Jesse Torrisi. Everything about this show indicated a good time: you have good tunes from all bands and its only $8! Sounds like you already have plans for this Tuesday night.

As a part of the Austin 360 concert series, local buzz bands Zookeeper, The Boxing Lesson, and New Roman Times will be getting down at Stubbs on Thursday. We’re here to tell you that this is a really solid lineup of up and coming local talent. And it’s cheap too!

More new local music continues to churn out this week with a track from Chris Simpson and his band Zookeeper. This new track “Mary of the Morning” will appear on an upcoming album due out in 2010. Thanks to Austin Sound for the heads up on this.

I’ve been feeling really nostalgic lately about my Emo days in high school and college so I thought the hottest Austin emo band Mineral would be a solid choice for our From the Closet. Mineral were only around for about 4 years and only put out two full LPs, both of which superb additions to the then trendy Emo genre. After their break up in 1998, Chris Simpson went on to form The Gloria Record and now fronts the Austin folk-pop band Zookeeper. The song I’ve got for you is “& Serenading” which appears on the bands second LP EndSerenading. It’s long been one of my favorites from the late 90s emo genre.

A recent local find by us, Quiet Company, are playing a show at Antone’s on Friday night and have some surprises in store. To start off, the band will be joined on the stage by fellow locals The Mercers, Zookeeper, and Wiretree as openers. Tickets will cost you $10 online or $15 for a ticket and a CD. To make things more enticing, the band has a deal with do512 that allows you to get a free 9 song EP, a chance to win tickets, and a 50% off deal just be liking the event. Like they could do anything else to make you want to go. Do it!!!

Ruta Maya is a venue that probably doesn’t get enough coverage on our site, so we thought we’d throw some love their way for a sweet event they’ve got going down Saturday night. The show is a special one that features several of our favorite local up and coming acts doing nothing but Kinks covers. Lineup includes ATH favorites Golden Bear, The Bubbles, Bankrupt and the Borrowers, Tunnels, Zookeeper and a mess load of other bands that won’t all fit on this page. So the now famous free week is finally upon us and you want to know what’s going on. For you inquiring minds, we decided to give you a night by night guide on what venues you should head out to. California’s Earlimart will grace us twice tomorrow evening. They will first play a free set at Waterloo Records at 5 PM. Then they will be off to play a full set at The Mohawk with Austin bands Zookeeper and Silent Sunset (featuring Bill of Sound Team). I’ve seen them several times before, and they always put on an enjoyable show, and you have two chances to see them – don’t miss out.
