SXSW 2014 Interview: Peach Kelli Pop
With a slew of labels coming into town for SXSW, perhaps there is none more hard-working than the guys over at Burger Records. They’ve got tons of bands to work with, and they try and organize a big weekend-long extravaganza so you can get your fill of their wide variety of acts. We’re helping them spread the word by interviewing tons of these bands, and today, our interview brings us to Peach Kelli Pop. Read on below.
ATH: There was a lot of hubbub last year concerning corporate sponsorsand pay to play and what not atSXSW. As a band, what’s your reason for coming to pay at the festival? What do you hope to get out of it?
PKP: I personally don’t care about playing for corporate sponsors unless they are evil… If you can get paid for playing, that’s awesome! We play SXSW because it’s fun and crazy. We have also learned that there are lots of fans that can see us play there that wouldn’t normally have the opportunity because of where they live.
ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lastingimpression. What’s your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?
PKP: We always play 30 minute sets so it’s no biggie for us. Short and Sweet
ATH: The festival caters to music fans, but food and booze are an important aspect of the fans and the bands. What’s your band’s food and beverage of choice?
PKP: We love Mac and Cheese, hot dogs and ice cream. Fav beverages are malibu rum.
ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Who would you ideally like to play with of the 1000s of bands gracing our city? Make your own optimal line-up.
PKP: We would love to with Bikini Kill & the Ramones
ATH: We are partial to SXSW obviously, but what festival do you feel is the best around?
PKP: SXSW is craycray and expensive, but cool in a lotta ways. Burgerama is pretty epic, especially this year!
ATH: Let’s say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop-up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?
PKP:Forget the stupid circumstances and have fun playing our songs on stage.
ATH: What’s your favorite album to come out in the last year? What’s playing in the tour bus?
PKP: We love Cherry Glazzerr’s new album. We mostly listen to Lil Kim, JaRule & Soulja Boy in the van.
ATH: The digital age is upon us, like it or not. What are your band’s thoughts on streaming services like spotify, pandora, etc.? Blow em all up? Or embrace the future?
PKP: It would be cool to be paid when people listen & enjoy the music I have created, but at least I get new fans from it.
