Sludge Rock From Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party

smpp1Seems like were posting mostly slow and gentle singer/songwriter sounds today so I wanted to find a little something to mix up the tempo.  This awesome jam, “Kraken”, from Quebec based Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party is just what I was looking for.  If loud, fast, and a little in your face rock n roll is your fancy, click play and have your hunger satisfied.  Check out first single “Brain Avenue” elsewhere on the site.

Austin amigos Fleeting Youth Records will put out The Death of Cool on May 19th.

Give Trudy a Little Listening Time

11169666_424097891103755_5913121165138313116_oI’m really excited to bring you this track from Trudy, the new up-and-coming act from overseas.  There’s a whole slew of things going on in this song that I find rather interesting, all leading to an out of the ordinary listen.  There’s these little elements of garage rock (real tiny), but they blend it in with some doo-wop touches; if that wasn’t enough, there’s a bit of oddity from the psychedelic realm, all glued into a pop structure. No word on precisely when we’ll get something official from the band, by way of a full-length, but it’s an awesome introduction…if you ask me.

Body Double to ReIssue Tom Diabo

diaboAt the age of 30, Tom Diabo had been battling cancer for seven years, and those seven years brought gifts that only his family was meant to hear…until now. Almost 30 years after his death, Body Double is releasing a collection of his songs under the title Dark Star. Musically, there’s a tragic beauty being presented right here on this single from the release; I was entranced almost immediately.  Diabo’s vocals are deep and hallowed, often looped on top of another. It’s really interesting and quite unique, thus I’m sharing with you, hoping you’ll be as intrigued; the release is scheduled for June 2nd.

You Can’t Ignore Hooton Tennis Club

hootonI mean, the Hooton Tennis Club name alone grabs your attention, in some form or another, but what’s important is how quickly you get attached to this new single. From the moment that first snare hit kicks in with the guitar twisting around the lyrics, it’s pop success.  It’s a perfect pop piece, rocking a little bit of twang in the guitars whilst pushing a casually cool vocal to bring the whole track together. If this ditty suits your tastes, then look for for the group to release their debut album later this year via Heavenly Recordings.

Axel Flóvent Gives You More Soft Folk

axelA little while ago, I gave you guys a delightful bit of folk music from Iceland’s Axel Flóvent, and I’m excited to share yet another great tune from this gentleman. “Dancers,” has a little bit more of a pop vibe to it than the other track, but at the same time, there’s this incredible delicateness to the vocals on this tune, and goose-bump inducing when they peak into their charming falsetto. Another great song that should incline you to pick up his Forest Fires EP, which is out May 25th.

Track Premiere: New Single from Frog

froggyHave you spent any of your time listening to Frog? No? Then prepare yourself for something quite special, something you’ll rush to share with your friends, hoping to be the coolest kid on the block.  This new single from their upcoming album, Kind of Blah, is a number that builds layer upon layer, working first with vocals, then adding and adding until listeners are carried away by the power of song.  This is one of those tunes that erases the world around you, leaving you to find yourself at one with the song before you.  Look for the band’s album to hit on May 25th via Audio Antihero.

Watch This New Video from 23:23

2promo2323This week Soliti releases the trilogy from 23:23, which is the side-project of Rami Vierula, the frontman of Delay Trees.  I’ve really been captivated by the music in the three album, with Torero being my particular favorite…if I had to pick just one.  There’s this interesting emotion that comes from the collection of songs; it’s like drifting, floating along to the space created by construction of the songs.  There are some lo-fidelity bedroom tendencies, yet other moments burst forth with atmospheric noise; it all fits together, tying all the pieces together in perfect unison.  There’s a new video available today, which should give you further introduction into the world of 23: 23.

More From Little Children

littleWe already introduced you to Stockholm based group Little Children last month and today we have even more new music to share.  New single “We’re Falling” is a genuine, easy going pop number for anyone needing some bright sounds and happiness in their day.  It maybe doesn’t have the rougher edges like many of the bands we typically promote, but I’m finding it catchy and uplifting regardless.  I’m sure you’ll find something to like as well.

Pick up new Traveling Through Darkness on June 2nd.

Pleased to Meet You: Snooty Garbagemen

sgIt looks like 12XU has added another high voltage act to the stable, and I’m really excited to hear what exactly comes from new signing Snooty Garbagemen. Tom Triplett already has some links with the lable via The Blaxxx, but this new project already has an impacting sound that’s got me itching for the full-length.  The musical vibe is just a blasting rock n’ roll burst, and some might find it akin to Thee Oh Sees, with Triplett’s yelps…but, there’ seems to be much more control on the direction of this single.  The self-titled LP will be out on the label July 6th, and after last year, I’ll pretty much trust anything they put out.
