The Rightovers Making My Day

rightoversI always keep an eye on the labels I love, so I was really happy when Jigsaw Records tossed up this track from The Rightovers, a Hawaiian act who’ve just released their debut LP, Blue Blood.  It’s interesting, as the music is not quite indiepop, yet not far off; at the same time, it’s not classic alternative college rock, and yet it is.  Ultimately, it makes for a rewarding sound that you’ll circle back to time and time again, hopefully enjoying what you’re listening to, rather than try to decipher the musical nonsense I lay before you.  Want a good tune? This one works.

Steady Jam From Low

mainLow has been around the game for years now and have put out more than their fair share of hits.  With such a history, you’d think the well had run dry, but as evidenced by this jam “What Part Of Me”, the band is still capable of producing gems.  This one is a short and sweet lo fi track worthy of being labeled a pop hit.  Press play and enjoy.

Low will drop Ones and Sixes via Sub Pop on September 11th.

The Dream Of The 90s Is Alive With Night Flowers

11816265_882537551835279_1261872544787042425_oSo this track may be a few days old, but bear with me, as it’s a Monday and I’m playing catch up, but I don’t think you’ll really mind once you have a listen. Night Flowers are a five piece out of London who have taken shoe gaze dream pop to a whole different level. With the track below, “Sleep,” you’ll notice immediately the 90s influence in the guitars and percussion: that sort of grungey distortion on the riffs, the jangle of the tambourine. The vocals are what really make this song stand out for me; the female vocals are so pure and clear that they almost sound translucent, warmed up over the track with some other backing male vocals. I’m really digging the sound here, so I’ll be excited to hear the rest of the band’s self titled EP that’s due out from Dirty Bingo Records at the end of September.

Start Your Week Out With Minden

unnamedMinden are a group who hail from Portland Oregon, and they’ve got a new single for you to jam to… well, make that two singles. The first of these two, and the so-called ‘lead’ track is called “Saint” and it’s a nice combination of pop and psychedelic rock. The band gives you a blend of these two genres: the drum beats and guitars are pretty psych, while the vocals are fairly pop friendly. “Don’t Want a Laugh” is the second of the two, and it brings the mood a little more bluesy into a slow groove. Both tracks are pretty good examples of easy listening indie pop, so press play below and have a listen.

Show Pics: Roger Sellers @ The Mohawk (7/25)

Upload Roger Sellers 27Here comes a little bonus show coverage before the week’s new jams…

Roger Sellers played a set at The Mohawk last weekend. I was there with plus one to hang out after a nice dinner at Perla’s. It was part of Raw Paw’s Alien Summer Series of shows showcasing many great local bands. There were many great acts, but Roger was fresh back from a little touring action. Wanted to see how things are evolving.

Projectors are fun. Notes and pics after the break y’all.
