New Music from What Moon Things

WMT-WEB-RESImagine my delight when I heard this new track from What Moon Things. On their latest single, the band are taking a blend of darkwave electronic elements and putting on some dream pop touches. There’s a guitar sound that should definitely be familiar to those who follow a great deal of my posts (all 8 of you). This song celebrates the band working on the follow up to their heralded 2014 debut that won them some rave reviews from the likes of P4K and others. You can also add the group to the many that will be making their way to Austin in a few weeks for SXSW.

Can’t Not Share Another Great Track From Mirror Travel

mirrortravel_hiresOk, I’ll say it: Mirror Travel is one of my favorite underrated bands to come out of Austin… even if they’ve relocated to New Mexico. With each new single they release in anticipation of their upcoming album, Cruise Deal, I get a little bit more excited to hear what they’ve got in store for us this time around. “Aasim” shows the same sort of heavy guitars and big sound that they’ve treated us to with other single, “Yesca,” but this one is a bit more of a slow jam. Make sure you listen below, catch them sometime when they’re around town for SXSW and get ready forCruise Deal, which will be out very soon on March 11th viaModern Outsider.

More From Operators

unnamed-13-1At this point in his career, Dan Boeckner can really do no wrong in my mind. Regardless of how is making music or who with, he continues to churn out hit after hit. Today I’ve got another new track called “Blue Wave” under the Operators band name. As I mentioned previously, this is truly some great music that could easily rival his early work with Handsom furs. Carry on friend.

Operators will releaseBlue Waveon April 1st via Last Gang Records.

Quiet Tune from Winterpills

15

15

This is a pretty great track, and you should definitely get Winterpills on your radar. When the song really takes off, Phillip Price takes you in slowly with his voice, soon joined by his wife Flora to flesh out the number. So many harmonies, even monosyllabic ones, always encourage me to play a song on repeat. This sprawling number swells to a pop-tactic close, and should serve as a centerpiece to the band’s new album, Love Songs. That LP is being released by Signature Sounds on March 18th.

New Single & Video From Bergen

12346393_1028336280551107_8372644075798823823_nFinding new artists to share with you eager awaiting fans is a bit of fun for us here at ATH and today I’ve got a new one for ya with Bergen. The duo, based between London and Padova, Italy, create an interesting new form of dream pop mixed with some darker elements of the shoe gaze genre. I highly recommend watching this entrancing video to go along with their new song “Girl” as it accompanies the tune rather nicely. This track appears on a new EP coming out soon. I will of course be sharing more information once I have it. Enjoy.

Fresh Music from Carter Tanton

ctThis Friday you will have to rush to the record store (or online if that’s your bag) to grab a copy of Carter Tanton‘s brand new album, Jettison the Valley. Fortunately, we have another single from the album to share with you today…it’s rumored to be Carter’s favorite track on the LP. Opening percussive moments stand in like a metronome, allowing for the lofty range of Tanton’s voice to soar high in the mix, setting the tone for the track. One of my favorite things about this song, and the album as a whole, is that while many singer/songwriters rest on the tradition of voice, guitar and minimal percussion, Carter’s filling in his songs, be it backing harmonies, slide guitar or atmospheric touches; it elevates the record far beyond the norm. Look for the record this Friday courtesy of Western Vinyl.

SXSW Interviews: Hospital Ships

hospitalHospital Ships are back this year, and they’ve got a new album to share with you all too! He’s been in and around Austin quite a bit, playing with friends and recording, so he’s familiar with the scene, but then again, SXSW is a whole different animal. We caught up real briefly with Jordan to give you a glimpse into his world. Look for the new album, The Past in Not a Flood on March 11th, the week before the music kicks off! Read more

Never a Bad Time for Pity Sex

psThe title of this post is in reference to the band, weirdoes. While Pity Sexhas been on our radar for some time, they seem to be making quite a name for themselves, especially now that they’re working with Run For Cover Records. I think the intensity of the music falls in line with a lot of the modern guitar pop, while the soft quality of the vocals portrays the band’s different dynamic, at least in contrast to many of their peers. Their new effort White Hot Moon is being released by the label on April 29th, so stream the song below to see if it’s up your alley.

Show Preview: Rob Crow @ the Sidewinder TONIGHT

rcMy first encounter with Rob Crow came in college when someone loaned me a Heavy Vegetable CD; it paved the way for what would be my huge fandom of Rob and Pinback. His voice has forever been an important one in my life, and ever distinctive for listeners. He’s bringing his new project, Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place, to Austin tonight at Sidewinder. I’ve always appreciated his live shows, having seen him at least a dozen times before; he’s entertaining, but the live performance is always executed as well as any band I’ve seen. it’s an early show too, so you can get in, enjoy yourself and then grab some rest. Doors are at 6:30, tickets are HERE, and Ini is opening the evening. Oh…the new album, You’re Doomed. Be Nice. is out this Friday via Temporary Residence.

Indie Rock is Back with Leland Sundries

10501800_10152958977724109_633741058526209611_nI sort of miss the late 90s/early 00s of indie rock. There’s a lot that just gets rehashed in a tired way, but that’s why I’ve been digging this Leland Sundries tune…it’s not really any of that. It takes an Americana approach, then blends it with some of the classic alternative nods, mixing it all up to provide listeners with something timeless. I also value the fact that the lyrics are approachable and tell a bit. Look for the band’s new effort, Music for Outcasts, on June 3rd.
