Gimme 5 ACL: Corbu
As we get ready for ACL this weekend, team ATH has been trying to find new ideas for providing coverage for this year’s festival in unique and exciting ways. An idea was given to me recently to have a group highlight some of their favorite bands on the bill by way of a 5 song playlist. I jumped at the idea and asked New York City based outfit Corbu to be our very first playlist band. Maybe you’ll find something you like or rediscover an oldie that you forgot about. Check out the band’s words and playlist after the jump.
1. Radiohead – Decks Dark
They’re my favorite band in life, and the fact that our whole tour experience will end with their live set is the most perfect thing I can imagine. “Decks Dark” has some of my favorite lyrics on the new record – the way Thom sings “you gotta be kidding me” gets me every time I hear it.
2. LCD Soundsystem – Someone Great
We’re so happy they’re back. James Murphy is a great engineer, so their live sound is impeccable. When they perform this song, they let the opening synth pad loop forever and you feel it through your whole body.
3. Flying Lotus – Melt!
The first Flying Lotus track I ever heard. I’ve heard it in dreams before – it transports me to a different place entirely. Can’t even imagine what his grooves feel like on a huge system.
4. Miike Snow – Cult Logic
One of Amanda’s favorite songs. I asked her why and she said,
do do – da do do –
do do do – da do do do
da do do d-do do do
5. M83 – Teen Angst
I doubt they still play “Teen Angst” live, but I’ll freak out if they do. That arpeggiated lead and the way it blends with the drums is beautiful, like a blissed-out, synthetic My Bloody Valentine. Such an emotional, honest, joyful song.
Thanks again dudes for the time and effort put into this!
Corbu will be playing Weekend One only on Friday at 11:30am over on the Cirrus Logic stage. Also, I’d be failing you miserably if I didn’t share the band’s great recent single “Through Emptiness”. Check that out after the youtuber and say hi to them on Facebook.
