Letting Up Despite Great Faults Share She Spins Video

Our friends in Letting Up Despite Great Faults just returned from what I hope was an excellent tour with our other friends Blushing. In their pocket is a brand new video for “She Spins” off their most recent IV LP, which gives us an extra excuse to hype the band and their record. This song’s got a delicious bit of guitar work, jangling in the perfect way from the get-go. As the track moves forward, you get great vocal interplay between Mike and Annah, the band’s bread and butter. Today’s Bandcamp Friday, so if you love the tune, why not grab their LP? It’s good…just don’t leave it unattended in your car overnight in Texas!

Voxtrot Announce Early Music Compilation + Rarities

It’s hard not to wax nostalgically about what a great time the Austin scene was back in the 2000s; it was a city that could do no wrong, from the release of Casual Victim Pile to indie darlings like Harlem; it was one of the most vibrant scenes around. And, perhaps my favorite, was Voxtrot, a band that shot to the top only to sparkle and quietly fade. But, today the band announce they will release an Early Music Compilation, featuring all their earlier EPs combined into one listen; it seems like a no brainer to grab it on this Bandcamp Friday. Plus, they’ll also have a super limited Cut from the Stone: Rarities and B- Sides release. And and and! There’s more! The band have shows next Fall! Shows! Okay. I’m super giddy. Please don’t buy all the copies of this before I can! Check out this new video compiled by Miguel Hinojosa of all this old footage from the band’s 2005 tour.

The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Announce New LP

What’s that? New music from the Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness? Yeah, I’m in. The group dropped a surprise single back in April, but I wasn’t ready for them to hit me with another single and another album, but I welcome it here! This song begins with a bit heavier guitar vibe than what they’ve brought out in early albums; it feels like a heavier brand of power-pop, ready for some anthemic stadium performances. But, as always, they turn the jangling guitars on, bridging the power pop into some super brilliant melodic chorus work, clearly knocking it out of the park with their charming songwriting. It’s like if Tom Petty was a really big indiepop nerd, and its wonderful. Their new record is titled The Third Wave Of…and its out in September via Bobo Integral.

Field Guides Share Margaret Single

There’s some really breath-taking music being made as of late, and I’ve really need those voices in my listening rotation. One such artist is Brooklyn’s Field Guides, crafting these striking folk tunes with moving arrangements supporting the gentle strum, like on this “Margaret” single. Honestly, it feels like this is the sort of link between the likes of Bill Callahan and David Berman; I can’t quit playing this song. Listen closely, as there’s a nice vocal accompaniment that begins to filter into the tune as it bends around your ears; this track is filled with delicate little flourishes that will certainly charm. This tune appears on the new LP, Ginkgo, out on June 1st via Whatever’s Clever.

The Glass Picture Release Self-Titled EP

Well, it’s Friday, or yesterday if you’re in Australia, and so yesterday, The Glass Picture dropped their self-titled EP. This duo is made up of Violetta del Conte-Race and Lucy Emanuel, who’ve been in other groups like Las Tetas or Primo!, so of course that’s right up my alley. These six songs are contemplative synth pop tunes, carefully allowing the melodies of the vocals to kind of dictate the pace and beat of each song; I’m partial to “CD Ballad” on my first few run throughs of the EP, with “Sewing” right behind. You know the added bonus? The EP is out courtesy of Chapter Music, some of the finest tastemakers in all of Australia. Stream it all below!

Show Pics: Good Morning @ Hotel Vegas (5/3)

Weve got a little show photo coverage action of another night that is part of the manic schedule right now. Good Morning is touring the US after the pandemic prevented travel in support BARNYARD that was released on October of 2021. The record has chill vibes and a few hits. In support, we also saw Packs, bringing back the dream of the 90s.

Kamikaze Nurse Share Come From Wood Single

Vancouver outfit Kamikaze Nurse will release their new Stimuloso LP come this June, thus seems pertinent to share another single. This track opens minimally, setting you up for the furious roll in that races in after the one minute mark. Personally, this song feels all about contrast between the musical elements and KC Wei’s steadied vocal work throughout. Wei holds onto a muted melody, occasionally letting it rise, but the band behind is rioting, drums rushing and pounding, guitars screaming…and in the end its all balanced, setting the scene for a great new album. Stimuloso drops on June 3rd via Mint Records.

Ghost Woman Shares Clockwork Video

If you’re looking for a slow-burning psychedelic Americana stomp, then check out this new video from Ghost Woman. Even the visuals going throughout seduce you with this nod to the hazy deserts of Western United States; the tune drips with this dense weight that beckons full immersion. If you listen closely, you’ll find this seductive little melody right at the 1:09 mark, and it’s super brief, but just the slightest tonal change that completely sucked me into the tune. If you’re willing to get lost with seductive melodies and heavy psychedelic fog, then be sure you get your wallet ready to grab the self-titled LP from Ghost Woman, out June 15th via Full Time Hobby.

Gorgeous Bully Readies Am I Really Going to Die Here

Tomorrow is Bandcamp Friday, and I’m going through the list of things I’m looking forward to grabbing, and wouldn’t you know it, I somehow let this Gorgeous Bully slide by, so I’m aiming to rectify that. In the lead track from Am I Really Going to Die Here, you get the energetic brand of longing and loneliness that initially attracted me to the project; the forceful pop rock is definitely the band’s bread and butter. That said, you get some more solemn vibes going through the later tracks already released; “Something in the Air” is a mellow slow jam working over a nice little programmed beat. Check out the tunes, and put it on your list for tomorrow.

Tijuana Panthers Release New Single

Long Beach based band Tijuana Panthers have been a staple here on ATH for almost 10 years and I still think they may be one of the last remaining guitar rock bands out there. Proof of their continued rocking ways comes today in the form of this new single “False Equivalent” which features a sort of surf inspired, gnarly guitar piece reminiscent of late 50s/early 60s rock n roll. I am sure you’ll find this to be a refreshing piece of vintage inspired surfy, jangle rock.

This track will appear on new album, Halfway to Eighty, which will be released on June 24th via Innovative Leisure. Pre-orders are up now.
