Meet the SXSW Band: Taleen Kali

Taleen Kali just dropped their record, Flower of Life, last week, so it makes sense they’re bringing those tunes into Austin for SXSW. We wanted to make sure that you got a chance to get to know Kali, so we reached out with our set of questions for Meet the SXSW Band. Give a look below to find out more about the artist as they roll into town.

Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

We’re Taleen Kali from Los Angeles.

Describe your groups sound using only adjectives or superlatives.

Pastel goth dreamy shoegaze.

What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2023?

Our debut full-length “Flower Of Life” is out now everywhere on Dum Dum Records.

Why playSXSW? Whats the draw for the band? What about this festival will bring you to Austin?

Why not? You get to meet hundreds of bands and labels and make new friends. This year, we’re shopping for a label and distribution for the next album, which we’ve already begun working on.

There are tons of bands coming into town, but if you could create your own perfect festival, who would you have playing? Would it have a sick name? Where would it take place? Feel free to disregard the rules of time and space.

DUM DUM FEST! We’re already planning the first one in L.A. this summer More to come soon…

What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?

We have a van jam playlist where we play all our favs. It keeps getting longer and longer every year…

Obviously you have seen or heard about the issues coming up this year about fair pay for artists atSXSW? Care to offer any insight or comment?

Yes. We signed the UMAW petition! Fair pay for artists is crucial, as well as waiving the SXSW application fee which can be prohibitive to many artists.

Weve been seeing more and more artists get into the food and beverage game, whether its pierogies from Pavement or Deftones beer. If you ever got into the game, what would be your food or beverage and what would it be called?

Taleen Kali’s Evil Eye Hot Sauce.
