Provoker Share New Double A-side

Los Angeles based outfit Provoker came into my musical sphere a few years ago when I happened upon a cassette version of their Dark Angel EP at a garage sale. Yep, that happened. I’ve stayed in tune with the band since then, and also made a point to catch a few of their SXSW sets in 2024. This year, the dudes have a new LP coming out on May 9th entitled Mausoleum which will feature this double single “Germaphobe” & “Tears in the Club.” Side one is a pretty expected, down temp track from the trio, but part two will certainly kick things up for your next emo dance party. Yeah, I dig it.

LEECHES Return With New Single

It has been quite a long time, near on 5 years to be exact, since I last heard from Bournemouth based outfit LEECHES. Imagine my excitement when the band reached out and shared news of a regrouping of sorts, along with this new single “Green.” What a way to come back too, with a loud, super well produced, absolute killer of a track. I think you’ll be enjoying this one as you hit play below. Here’s to hoping for more to come from the lads in the near future.

Night Beats Release New 7″

Last month we hit you with a new track called “Behind the Green Door” from our pal Danny Lee Blackwell under his recording moniker Night Beats. Well today the track sees a full release as part of a limited 7″ vinyl pressing from Suicide Squeeze. Both the original song previously shared, and a new version are streamable on Bandcamp with purchase options for both digital and for the exclusive vinyl release. But wait, there’s more! Danny was also kind enough to offer some insight into his creative process and how this track came about. Hit the jump for his words, which just might offer you some personal inspiration.

TVOD Back With Another Hit

Brooklyn based outfit TVOD were a band that really impressed with tons of energy and noise during SXSW a couple of weeks ago. Maybe even top band of the week? At least in the Top 5 for sure. Making such an impression will of course cause us to hopefully return the effort put in while in Austin, so we had to share the band’s new song “Pool House” today. It’s maybe a slightly paired down and more chill vibe than previous singles, but I love the pos-punk feeling, guitar tone, and overall bouncy melody throughout. Dig it.

TVOD will release this track as part of their new album Party Time, which is due out May 9th on Mothland. Pre-order that sucker now.

Lockstep Arrive With Drag Along

Since that lil festival thing last month wrapped up, I’ve been really focused in on mostly guitar driven, loud (some call it shoegaze) sounds, with bands from the week providing inspiration. Wild as it is, Nashville based upstarts Lockstep are coming into town on Saturday at Chess Club, AND just so happened to drop this new single “Drag Along” yesterday. You will immediately be hit by the sheer noise created by the trio, but also stay around for the melodic tones and beauty behind the wall of sound. If you like this one, also check out the band’s last EP, Arrival, over on bandcamp.

As mentioned, Lockstep will be playing opener for our local pals Grivo over at Chess Club on Saturday night. Tickets are still available.

Jahnah Camille Drops Poppy New Single

Birmingham certainly isn’t the first place that comes to mind when thinking about dreamy, alt pop tunes, but Jahnah Camille hopes to alter your mindset with new single “what do you do?” The track features those elements along with some faint hints of alt-rock and late 90s post-grunge in there somewhere as well. It is sure to make a home in your ear holes today.

This track is part of a new EP entitled My sunny oath! which is due out June 13th via Winspear. Pre-orders are live now.

Weekly Roundup & Rundown

Pardon our dust. As you might have guessed, the ATH crew has been taking the week to sort of refocus and chill as we try to recover from that thing going down next week. I’m sure many of you have thoughts on the news for next year, as do we, but we’ll save that for another day. About Last Night – SXSW Thursday

We are still standing and still ready to rock. Most of us had a long one yesterday and into the evening, so yeah we saw a ton of bands on Thursday. We were mostly split up, all over town, and maybe hit a high note for the amount of unique bands our team saw during one day. About Last Night – SXSW Wednesday

Yesterday was a long one folks, and felt like the first REAL day for SXSW to get going with all the crew out and about covering whatnot. We covered a lot of ground, mostly around Red River and on the east side, and of course we have some thoughts to share this morning. For any haters out there, go out and give it a shot, bands are still playing, hungry, and put on some great sets. About Last Night – SXSW (Saturday-Tuesday)

As you may have heard, SXSW kicked off this past weekend with some great local shows, especially our lil shindig over at Hotel Vegas with SOTO. Things continued into the early part of the week with most of us venturing out all over town to catch some bands before Austin gets truly wild closer to next weekend.
