Top 5 Bands at Goner Fest 11 – An Insider’s Guide

gonerI’ve been intrigued by the festival fascination of the world as of late, but as most of us know, the idea isn’t a wholly new one. For example, Goner Records is hosting their 11th Goner Fest this year on September 25-28 in Memphis.  I love the label and the things they’ve been putting out, so I reached out to our friend Madison, who handles press and bookings at Goner, to see who the Top 5 Acts of the festival are.

If you’re looking to get your rock n’ roll fix, and are willing to travel, this is the place to be.  You can still get your hands on tickets HERE. Thanks again to Madison for the time, and the advice on who to check out.

ATH Interview: The Fresh & Onlys @ Psych Fest 7

Fresh Onlys APF7 BannerTheir scene, their city, discovery, being a band, labels, projects, Spotify, sports – We had the opportunity to sit down with The Fresh & Onlys and talk music and people, and eventually a lot of sports. The interview went long and we love it. I thought about cutting it down, but these guys put it out there and to cut it would be a shame.

Big ups to the gentlemen for taking the time, being conversational and quite candid. It could have been even longer had my camera not over-heated, yeah, it over-heated.

Austin Psych Fest Interview 2014: Elephant Stone

elephantOne of the great things about Psych Fest, like many of our festivals in town, is that they realize that not every band can play, nor can every fan afford the shows.  So, they put in some work and lined up some opening shows on the Thursday before the official festival begins.  One of those acts I’ve been following for years: Elephant Stone.  They’re one of the many great acts playing over at Mohawk (there’s other shows at Red 7 too!); they’ll be playing at 9:00 PM outdoors. We caught up with Rishi Dhir for a quick interview before they make their way into town.  Read more

Austin Psych Fest 2014 Interview: Secret Colours

secretAustin Psych Fest is just a few short days away, so I reckoned we oughta ramp up our coverage.  Today we caught up with Secret Colours for a quick pre-fest interview.  I really love the Chicago band’s responses, and I appreciate greatly the thought drummer Justin Frederick put into his answers.  The band will be playing at 5:45 on Sunday at the Reverberation Stage.  Let’s get ready to enjoy ourselves at one of Austin’s best festivals.

Psych Fest 2014 Interview: Greg Ashley

Greg Banner 2Ah yes, another festival in Austin! Actually, we’re really excited about Austin Psych Fest.  It’s got a remarkable line-up, though I’m a  bit bummed Primal Scream had to back out.  But, as we have a month to go, we want to start offering you some insight into the bands coming our way.  Our first interview is with Greg Ashley, who released Another Generation of Slaves to rave reviews, at least from our site.  We caught up with him before he comes into town.  Read more
