Wow, it’s been way too long since we’ve managed to shoot one of our world famous Lost in Austin videos with Guerilla Waltz. Almost a year to be exact, since we last ran the incredible video of Suckers at Red 7. We’re less than a week away from the glorious Austin Psych Fest, and with so many bands coming to town, we wanted to give you a glimpse of some of the lesser known acts that should end up on your radar. We caught up with Odonis Odonis while on tour with Metz. Below you can read their thoughts on touring, the fest and coming to Austin.
Yet another small festival in Austin has grown into something much bigger than we ever thought it would and now Psych Fest is ready to stake a claim with the festival cool kids in town. As we usually tend to do, we’ll be previewing some of the artists playing the festival with a few spotlights on bands we think you should pay attention to. I told you all last year that I pick at least one night per SxSW to camp at a bigger venue. Last year, it was The Belmont for Jesus and Mary Chain. This year, same venue for The Flaming Lips. Other than a weird unannounced show, when would I get any where near this close to Wayne and the boys? …save for holding up the plastic ball thing as Wayne walks out over an audience. Add to that several bands on the rise or with a prize, some I have seen before, some new to me, and one that I was massively apathetic towards. What did I discover? Read.

So it’s been said already that the festival has wrapped up and we’re all trying to recover as best we can back at work Monday. It was a fun and exhausting week full of incredible music, tons of booze, and many an old friend. We’re each taking a look back at our week in free live music with some recaps and now it’s my turn. Finally, it’s over. After over a 100 bands, 100 beers, a few tacos, we’re back to the daily grind. The beast that is SXSW is officially behind us now, so we’ll be spending a bit of time highlighting our own individual thoughts on the festival. My picks for stuff to see is based solely on random selection, what I heard recently that caught my ear while perusing the intarwebs and names that I am happy to see on the list of showcasing artists. SxSW is like that; follow your folly. You will always miss something. You will always hear about some big thing that you can’t go to.
