Lollapalooza

If you’re like me and can’t really justify spending all that money to fly out to Chicago this weekend, you can catch most of Lollapalooza live on the Lollapalooza website. A lot of the mid-range acts from the festival will also be seen at our little ACL festival later in September. Maybe that will make your schedule planning a bit easier? I suggest tuning in first thing tomorrow at 12:15 for the Holy F*ck set. C3 also somehow landed Radiohead AND Rage Against the Machine as headliners but couldn’t get either for ACL. I suggest checking those two out. See the schedule for the event on the festival website.  You can also download an mp3 from each artist playing this weekend on a Lollapalooza mix created on Stereogum.

Chris Cornell & Timbaland

No, the title of this post is not a typo.  Chris Cornell is actually teaming up with Timbaland for his new solo album Scream due out sometime this September.  Even better, you can hear 5 new songs off the album over on the planet radio website.  I have always been a fan of Soundgarden and most of Audioslave’s material but I’m not sure I’ll be on board for this venture.  It’s…. interesting to say the least.  Let’s get some good comments on this one.

New Music From The Streets

We don’t post too much hip-hop on our website (probably because none of us are terribly well versed in the genre) so when we hear something that deserves a second listen, we give it to you. Brit hip-hop artist The Streets are one of those artists that sometimes deserve that second listen. The Streets have a new song called “The Escapist” that you can download by simply typing in an email address (it doesn’t have to be a real one). The song will be seen on The Streets new album Everything is Borrowed due out September 15th. You can also watch the new video for “The Escapist” on man’s greatest invention, youtube. I can’t seem to get the song out of my head. What do you think?

Matt Pryor Solo Album

Admittedly, I was way into that new-Emo that came out of Lawrence back in 1997. I was hopelessly devoted to The Get Up Kids, and traveled to see them over a dozen times. I followed Matt Pryor, the lead singer, onto his New Amsterdams project. Now, he has a solo release, done completely on his own. I couldn’t be more excited. It comes out July 29th on Vagrant. You can listen to the album Confidence Man at Matt’s MySpace page.

Violens – Violent Sensation Descends

Occasionally, and I do mean that, it pays to have friends from New York. Quite like Austin, there are hundreds of bands recording music; all of them trying to make it big. Fortunately, I found my way through all those bands to discover Violens. Apparently, some of these members come from the band Lansing-Dreiden, which wrote really intellectual psych-pop. This is of the same vein, but just a little bit darker.  Let’s hope we hear more from these guys.

You can get more info on the band, and listen to a few more tracks by visiting Violens MySpace page. Or visit RCRD•LBL’s website to download a tune (sorry folks, they forbid us from posting it here… we know, lame).
