Show Preview: Guided By Voices @ Emos (9.25)

Date Tuesday, September 25th
Location Emos East
Doors 800 PM
Tickets $22-$30 from Ticketfly

Really you don’t need much encouragement to go out and see Guided By Voices.  The band’s output speaks for itself, and either you’re a fan, or you’re not, but if you are, you already made plans to be at the show.  Since reforming the original line-up, the group hasn’t really missed a beat, releasing the enjoyable Class Clown Spots a UFO earlier this year.   If you know nothing about the group, trust us when we say that this is one of those musical experiences you need to be a part of, so be sure to get your tickets! Detective will be opening the evening up.

Show Review: White Arrows @ Red7 (9/20)

Last Thursday was a busy night for music. Poor Fiona.

After taking Dustin Wong, The Walkmen and Beach House, ATH hit two other shows including one we were presenting at Red7. White Arrows was back in town as a headliner after playing the opening slot for Beat Connection, a show where the headliner was bested. It was good to see these guys come back through and put forth another great set.

Read on for a few deets and pics.

Show Review: Beach House @ Stubbs (9.20)

In what was an absolutely hectic night for the Austin music scene, we started our evening at Stubbs catching two of the better acts in the whole scene, The Walkmen and Beach House.  For my two cents, there was only one clear-cut winner on the evening, but for that you’ll have to read on.

…not to mention you’ll get great pics from Brian Gray that you can’t get with your cellphone.

Show Preview: Mark Kozelek @ Scottish Rite (9/21)

Date 9/21/12
Location Scottish Rite Theater
Doors 8pm
Tickets Sold Out?

My apologies to the Mark Kozelek fans out there for the super late show post, but I’m sure you keep up with the guy and knew about this already.  For those of you who were clueless like me, Kozelek has a planned solo show going down at the Scottish Rite Theater in Austin Friday night.  If you’re going to keep being like me, I’ve been a huge fan of Kozelek for a long time so I expect to see you at the show.  The guy crafts some of the best singer/songwriter, albiet depressing, music in the game.

Oh and it appears that tickets are sold out so showing up to the venue and scalping is recommended.

Date 9/20/12

Tickets SOLD OUT!!

Do I really need to say anything about this show?  I don’t think so.  If you don’t have tickets, try to find some on craigslist kids.  This show is sure to be one of the most anticipated in town of the year.  Both of these bands are some of the few that can actually deliver what they record into the live setting.  Opening support is provided by Dustin Wong.  Oh and make sure you note the early door times so you don’t miss anything.

Show Preview: Eternal Summers @ Mohawk (9/20)

Date Thursday, September 20th
Location Mohawk
Doors 9 PM
Tickets $8 from Mohawk

As if Thursday night couldn’t get any crazier for us folks here in Austin, here’s another show that should be on your radar if you’re not planning on attending the gig we’re sponsoring over at Red 7. Eternal Summers come to town fresh off the release of their latest, Correct Behavior, which is brimming with post-punk hooks and sing-a-long melodies.  Their show is definitely going to be a bouncing good time, especially since they’re joined by Bleeding Rainbow, who are just about to release their own album, Yeah Right, in early 2013.  Oh, and with local favorites Rayon Beach opening, you’re sure to get your money’s worth.

Austin Town Hall Presents: White Arrows @ Red 7 (9.20)

Hey folks, I know Thursday is super packed with great bands in town, but if you’re going to some of the early shows, like Fiona Apple or Beach House, then afterwards you need to join us over at Red 7.  We’re stoked to be working with Transmission to present White Arrows in their glorious return to Red 7.  I am still enjoying their latest release, Dry Land Is Not a Myth, which is filled with hooks galore.  Last time we caught the band, they absolutely blew us away, giving us a stronger live show than I think any of us expected.  They’ll be joined by friends Young Buffalo to open up the evening, and with Doors @ 9 PM, you’ll have time to finish your beer and round out your night pop bliss.

Tickets – $8 from Transmission
