Radioactivity Have a New Single

It looks like Radioactivity aren’t slowing down, and I’m oh so grateful. Below we’ve got a new single the band recently released, and dammit if its not another winner. The guitars chug as one would expect, but I love their sound, almost working a power-pop vibe. Vocals are pretty near perfect, even when they’re stretched to their limits. It’s a quick little blast, but it might just be one of my favorite songs from the group. The band is about to wrap up their tour, so hopefully you can find these from the group or Wild Honey Records who’ve released this track on a new 7″.

Quick Burst of Rock from Flemmings

I love a band that’s just in it to band out solid rock grooves with no frills, and Flemmings are the latest act of that sort to come onto my radar. It feels like the band just jumped in a room and pounded out this quick number; it almost feels nostalgic in a certain sense…and the emphatic vocals shouting at the end are pretty powerful.  The group has a brand new Heads and Tails EP coming your way really soon, as in this week…courtesy of Odd Box Records.

You’ve Got to Jam This New Petite League Tune

It’s going to be hard for Petite League‘s new single not to draw comparisons to the Strokes, but at least it leans towards the early, infectious side of things. This is the sort of song you want to turn up at your next gathering and watch as your friends rambunctiously jump about and trash your home…in a joyous manner, of course. You can’t deny yourself fun, and you won’t want to once you’ve played this track as many times as possible. Plus, it ends with a slight sense of longing, adding a nice little touch to the backside. The Native Sound will release Rips One Into the Night LP on September 1st.

Weirdo Lo-Fi Track From Pardoner

It’s getting hotter than the devil’s ass crack down here in the ATX, which means that my listening catalogue and preferences are out the window. This new song from San Francisco’s Pardoner is right there with me though, as it’s a lo-fi, post punk track with just enough of a strange twist on it to set it apart from the masses. “Blue Hell” will appeal to your grunge taste, but the vocals sound as though they’re coming from another room, which puts a whole different spin on the track. Check it out below and then get stoked for the band’s debut full length, Uncontrollable Salvation, which will be out September 8 via the always killer Father/Daughter records.

Skytone Drop Jangling Pop Hits

Ottawa’s Skytone don’t really fit into a neat little package for consumers, but that’s precisely why I love the group. Sure, their brand new album Jangle Waves has the aforementioned jangling, but there are also moments that lean towards swinging croons like in “Second Hand Shops.” They almost adopt a beach vibe with “Missing You” only to move into dreamy pop territory with the following tune, “Lonely Holiday.” Throughout the listen, you’ll likely find yourself enveloped in warm harmonies reminiscent of the sun you’re trying to avoid outside your window; it’s the power of pure pop at its best, and it’s available now so go grab it!

Brand New Kane Strang Video

Kane Strang‘s debut album for Dead Oceans is really high on my list of things to look forward to this year, and today he’s dropped another video to tease us. This song is a subtle number, built mostly around the building of emotion…and its eventual release. Kane strums the guitar during the verses, then erupts into a shimmering bit of pop for the chorus. Something about the structure here reminds of really early Ben Kweller, just spun slightly in a more modern approach. It’s pop rock for those holding on to being cool…Two Hearts and No Brain will help keep us all cool on June 30th.

Brand New Track from The Sour Notes

Local Austin favorites The Sour Notes are gearing up for the release of their next LP, Darkest Sour...and good news for you is we have a brand new single to share with you, and it might just be the band’s best track yet! “On Yer Mark” walks on the poppier side of indie rock, dwelling in that light-hearted realm that’s been owned by acts such as The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. The guitar chords have that angular jangle while keyboards push through the crowd. Jared Boulanger’s voice has the perfect softness to ride the song out, especially when we get the female accompaniment to polish off the pop substance. I’m just sitting here smiling, and I’m sure you’ll be doing the same. Plus, if you’re in Austin, the band play Thursday evening over at Cheer Up Charlies…and I’m sure their set will include many new hits for your ears!

Bouncy Synthpop From Twinsmith

Are you ready to dance the day away? Well, then you’ve come to the right place, as Twinsmith are trying to their damndest to get you out of that chair and onto the dance floor with “You & I.” This song has all the trappings of a summer banger– infectious synth riffs that spiral through the whole tune, bombastic percussion which encourages head bobbing and tight knight guitar riffs. I personally like how the track’s instrumentation screams radio hit, but the vocals are pared down to that of a classic indie rock gem. Take a listen and get on board before Twinsmith blows up.

Another New Katie Von Schleicher Tune

After witnessing the genius of Aldous Harding last evening, it seems only fitting that I’d fall in love with another slow-moving chanteuse, Katie Von Schleicher. Her music’s been on my radar for some time, but I’m appreciative of her restraint in this latest single. To me, it sounds like she crafted the song based on vocals alone, then built the tune up by texturing with various layers of ambient sounds…be it a pulsing heartbeat or ghostly notes floating in the distance. You don’t need your pop music to hit you over the head with hooks, and if you agree, then check out her new album Shitty Hits on July 28th via Ba Da Bing Records.

Check Out This Tune From WOOLWORM

Man Mint Records has really been pumping out some hits for me recently. Only yesterday brought news of that legit new Tough Age EP and now they’ve sent me this surprising new single from Vancouver based WOOLWORM. The song, “Catbird”, reminds me of Thursday if they added more shoe gaze and indie tendencies to their sound. It’s right up my alley.

WOOLWORM will release Deserve to Die on August 25th via Mint Records.
