Sound on Sound Recap – Friday

sos-friday-036Mama, we made it! This past weekend, we loaded up our best jousting gear and chain mail armor and made the jaunt out to Sherwood Forest in McDade for the first ever Sound on Sound Festival. With the excellent lineup, new approach to booking a location and trusted leaders at the helm, we knew we were in for a whole different festival experience, but what we got was something that went beyond expectations. We came, we saw, we conquered, and some of us felt as though we’d never be dry again (damn rain!). It was a spectacular weekend filled with merriment and music– read on for ATH’s thoughts on day one and to relive Friday with B.Gray’s pretty pics.

Wild Nothing

Wild Nothing

Hey did you hear a festival is going on this weekend? You didn’t? What an idiot. So yeah the brand spanking new Sound on Sound Festival is going down this weekend at Sherwood Forest and we are of course here again to prepare you for the weekend. As usual, we’ve got some sweet interviews lined up with some of our favorite bands on the bill. I say we kick this thing off with one of our favorite acts all time, Wild Nothing. Jack Tatum has always made incredible music and has always been a true class act. Check out his responses to our S.O.S. questions after the jump.

Tempest le Mans Give You Perfect Nost-Pop

unnamed-55It’s Friday, which means that most of y’all are probably ready to break free from the chains of the day job and enjoy a nice summer weekend. One way to make that feeling happen a little early is to jam this oddly nostalgic and juvenile tune from Tempest le Mans that will have you thinking about your first crushes once again. The whole vibe of this song is a little surfy and a little jangly, with a killer bit of guitar solo at the end that is sure to check your box for the jam of the day. Vocally, Nathan Castiel brings emotion and pep with his nasal tone that and shows his full range on the choruses. Did I mention that this song includes horns to really round things out at the end; while the subject nature of the track is juvenile, the track is supremely mature pop perfection.

Show Pics: Nada Surf @ The Parish (5/27)

Nada Surf 17I was allowed to kick off my holiday weekend with some fun show bidness. After morning rain, a cold front blew through to give us a nice evening and I had spots to go take in Nada Surf at The Parish. When I have several separate circles of friends at the show, it warms your humidity-laden heart.

Click through. I have plenty of pics from the night and a few thoughts including some on the openers, The Misteries.

I know it’s a little hard to believe that Fun Fest is somehow going down this weekend.  It seems like we just recovered for a festival and now we have more fun to be had.  ATH will be ready of course with our previews (check out some from last week), interviews, and general advice for the weekend.  Our first interview of the years comes from up and coming locals Future Death.  We’re big fans of the band so imagine the excitement when they agreed to answer some of our ridiculous questions.  Follow the jump for more.

Show Review: Chad Valley @ Sidewinder (10/22)

The SidewinderChad Valley 18In my show preview, I noted that Chad Valley has become a must see for me. The last time through as a solo act, Hugo played Holy Mountain. Part of the sell of The Sidewinder was that it would be able to take Red7 bookings and have a space that was comparable to the dearly departed Holy Mountain. My back to back shows to start my time at The Sidewinder were outside and then inside so I have a decent feel for how the space works for both stages. Add to that a pleasant surprise in Stranger Cat and we have a great Thursday night show to kick off my F1 weekend.

ACL 2015 WE2 In Pictures: Friday Edition

ACLSo, let’s start with the photo portion of our ACL coverage. I have a confession; I sold my soul to take photos of the Foo Fighters. Yes, I signed a release. If the Foo people read this, please try to keep up to your end of the bargain and leave the watermark for ATH and send a little credit our way “as allowed”. I’ll probably never check if you guys use my pics, but be nice.

The Friday edition of photos starts with Avers and ends with the Foos, Son Little, Royal Blood, London Souls, Albert Hammond Jr., Billy Idol, Run The Jewels and Tame Impala in between.

ACL Interview: Waters

watersHere we are peeps, ACL is now a few short days away and I hope everyone is ready and raring to go in the heat.  The ATH crew is certainly amped for the weekend while we struggle to survive the long work week ahead prior to all the fun times.  Today I’m excited to be continuing our ACL coverage with a nice interview from ATH approved band Waters.  Leading man and creator of the group Van Perszaowski offers up the responses.  Hit the jump for more.

ACL Interview: Amason

amasonCompared to yesterday, I’m already feeling a bit more prepared for ACL coming up in a couple of weekends.  As we do every year, we’ll be working hard trying to interview as many bands will have us leading up to the festival.  Today I’m pumped to be kicking things off with new Swedish super group Amason.  Band member Nils Tornqvist was kind enough to answer a few of my burning questions.  Follow the jump for more.

Another Gem From Sego

segoPop.

I have been on a quest recently for a proper summer jam that jumps out in the lead of this year’s crop of summer jams; lots of good offers, but missing a real hooked up ditty. I’m not sure this song is THE summer jam, but it is damn good and Sego went from a Soundcloud find to an ATH favorite over the last six months. The last track shared was Rapture-esque burner, this is a friendly pop dance song that begs for a cocktail with an umbrella in it and some floaties.

They’ll be at The Mohawk on 9/12 opening for El Ten Eleven. Let’s fool around.
