Porcine Announce New Self-Titled LP

So you’ve been driving around in your car with the windows down, letting that rush fill you with energy. But, it’s time to move into the middling section of your day, slow the pace a wee bit, and what better way than to slowly seep into the Friday grind by pumping up this new Porcine track. Once you press play, the dreamy elements have you spinning, though slightly slower than the rush of a windows-down car ride, so put your hands in the air and let the track do it’s work. Everything here is sparkly and light, as you turn towards the weekend. But, one of the great things about the Barnsley outfit is they’re not afraid to up the ante and jump down on the pedals, as the latter half brings in their noisier tendencies as the tune fades with a bit more punch. They’ll be releasing their self-titled LP via Safe Suburban Home Records on March 1st.

Curling Ready Deluxe No Guitar Edition

No Guitar came out in the latter half of last year, but it seems like Curling weren’t entirely happy with that, as they’re now prepping a deluxe edition courtesy of Royal Oakie. This new edition offers a few instrumentals and a single edit of “Shamble,” which we’ve got down below. When this rendition kicks off, there’s this swell of vibrant sunbeams. But, roll those windows down, get in your car and go for a drive, because the track drops right into classic power pop, letting sharp guitar riffs twinkle and twist in the wind. Those melodic vocals are definitely there to carry the track, and the huge wall behind only sets you up for the perfect swoon. If you’re digging, the No Guitar Deluxe Edition is out March 1st.

Dez Dare Premieres 10000 Monkeys + An Argument with Time

Looking forward to what’s shaping up as a busy March, we’ve got our eyes on Brighton’s Dez Dare and his record, A Billion Goats. A Billion Sparks. Fin. An earlier single was sort of an electronic-induced version of that cliche of “going for a drive with the windows down;” it was a smash, and a reminder of the anomaly that is Dez Dare. Today, you get the more pensive piece, culling some heavy riffs into this almost spasming bit of electronic pop music. Could it be a game soundtrack? Possibly. Could it be Dare flirting with our need to be surrounded by walls of noise? Certainly. Those bursts are brief, an exorcism that quickly gets peeled to reveal clever beat-play. Then, it returns, the riffs jamming out and the vocals adding an emphatic kick to the percussion, stomping the song to a close. You can grab the new LP from God Unknown Records on March 1st.

Baula Share Mercury in Retrograde

It’s Friday, and I feel like I needed a song that would be great for rolling the windows down and going for a drive, and this jam from Sweden’s Baula is absolutely perfect. It instantly hits you with this growling rhythm section, rushing you right into the song’s center, where the curtain’s pulled back to offer up a little sugary treat for you to devour. Swirling about, the vocals billow through your speakers, all the while the drums continue their thumping pulse from the background; you’re going to find yourself locked right into the groove, unable to pull away from the infectious nature they’ve captured…and ultimately, you’ll press play because nothing says “windows down” like this hit!

Johnnie Carwash Share Aha (It’s Ok) Video

Lyon pop outfit Johnnie Carwash have a new record coming out at the end of March, and for my two cents, they’re channeling all the joy one can get from an indiepop tune, albeit with a bit more rambunctiousness. Each verse has this sharp, punctuated vocal delivery that reminds me an awful lot of Love is All, with danceable riffs circling all around the emphatic bursts. It’s a vibrant tune that echoes through your room with a magnitude of joyousness, freeing you momentarily from the constraints of the real world as you celebrate together. Their new LP will be out on March 29th, and we’ll keep you posted!

Checkout Shapeshifter From Mini Trees

Oh how we adore Lexi Vega and her musical project known as Mini Trees. She’s been bringing us hit after hit for the last several years, and this new tune “Shapeshifter” proves to be yet another jam for her repertoire. Often time people can confuse indie pop with things from just a straight radio ready pop style, but this track perfectly hits on both elements of indie with hints of pop. I can’t get enough of it.

This track is part of a new EP entitled Burn Out which is due on March 1st via Run For Cover Records.

Fancy Animals Offer Up Circles Single

This new single from Portland’s Fancy Animals has been floating around for a hot minute, and as you’re bound to hear the good stuff at some point, its landed on my shores…so here we are. Sonically, it’s not a far off nod to acts we adore like Blushing or Seablite, though in this presentation, the vocals take the focus and the dreamier elements of guitars get peeled way back, barely hanging on. Somehow, they manage to take the dream pop elements and spin them in a manner that almost feels like it was influenced by the Sneaker Pimps; it’s something in Rochelle’s voice that captures that sort of silky delivery that’s totally enthralling. Give a listen, won’t you.

The Pheromoans Share Faith in the Future Video

I’ve really been enjoying the sneak peek at the new LP from the Pheromoans; there’s something in their sound that sounds like a matured Dan Treacy at its best. As you’ll hear on the latest single, the tune offers up these little musical digressions tethered to the song’s center. Vocals are unsettling, melodic at times, then coming across sort of like radio transmissions from the depths of the tune. Is it post-punk or indie rock or some meaningful bastardization of all of the above? Whatever it is, the sound feels refreshing and promising, so I’m all on board for Wyrd Psearch; it drops March 1st via Upset the Rhythm.

Homeshake Announces CD Wallet

Like it or not, you’ve got to appreciate the artistry of Peter Sagar, aka Homeshake; his willingness to push himself creatively is an admirable trait, as it indicates a definite indifference to the algorithm-driven industry. Sometimes, it’s been wildly successful, and other times, for me, it missed. But, as his new album “explores his fascination with guitar music,” I can definitely say I’m on board here. There’s a bit of an Alex G meets Nothing vibe, going from this quieted bedroom performance into a big distorted gut punch; I loved the balance and definitely think I’ll be paying close attention when CD Wallet drops via Shhoamkee on March 8th.

Another Rad Careen Single

When we covered Careen‘s first single, I was definitely feeling a bit of Sonic Youth fandom in their craftsmanship, and while that’s still there, this single below seems to emit darker notes, nearing an almost industrial nature. I’m all about the song’s journey too, as it seems to kind of work back in forth between various worlds, seamlessly in spots and completely different segments in others. When it begins, the guitars are fast and pushing the pace; there’s still a beautified edge to it though, like a J Mascis fan covering a Hum record. As it progresses, the dominating doom of the tune begins to take over, though there definitely is some flirtation with the more indie-centric nature. All of it culminates in this crashing end that feels like it belongs in the outer circles of 90s metal and what we lazily referred to as doom. It’s a cool mixture, and something that leaves the band feeling refreshing in the long run. Cycle 3 drops on February 23rd.
