I think most of our readers interested in a little throwback action today will be down for this new song by Sunshine Gun Club. I’m hearing elements of bands like Wavves in this new song “Heaven”, mixed in with some fun and pop like sounds similar toThe Get Up Kids. Heavier, distorted guitars, but with a fun and catchy vibe if ya catch my drift? It’s an easy song to like and one I’m sure all of us can get on board with.

Debut albumHeavenwill come out on May 6th via Wiener Records.

Don’t Sleep on B Boys

While it might have been easy to pigeonhole Captured Tracks earlier on, the label’s done a great job diversifying their roster, and one of the bands that’s adding to that is their newest singing B Boys. Sure, there are some sonic similarities in the guitar ring, but the Brooklyn trio is taking on their own spin with it, issuing out a more grimy, proto-punk feel. Still, the label sells infectious pop, no matter what way you look at it; the No Worry No Mind EP from the band hits on March 18th.

Goth Pop From Bootblacks

Prior to today I didn’t have a whole lot of information about Brooklyn based group Bootblacks. I’m looking to remedy that lack of info starting now after hearing this dark, synth laden pop song entitled “Sub Rosa”. I’m sure many listeners will hear some easy comparisons here to uber popular bands like Joy Division or The Smiths, but I feel as though the band deserves more than just some lazy comparison. Hit play down there and decide for yourself if it aligns with your taste.

New Music from Great Lakes

Winter is here folks, well, musically speaking. It’s that time of year when slow ballads and folk-laden tunes are coming left and right, but perhaps none more enjoyable than this bit from Great Lakes. The center of this song holds true to modern folk/Americana tropes, but the layering of harmonies and various bits of instrumentation adds more depth to the song itself, creating a dense study in the genre for listeners. The Brooklyn (by way of Athens) will be releasing their 5th album next year; Wild Vision is being put out by Loose Truck Records on January 22nd.

New Single From Stone Cold Fox

During the early part of last year, Nathan shared a song with you guys by Brooklyn based group Stone Cold Fox and all of us started paying attention to the group. Since that time we didn’t hear a whole lot from the band so I was fairly excited when they sent me over this great new song “Contagion”. I’m calling it a straight up indie rock gem certainly worthy of tons of praise and accolades. The band has told us to expect a new album sometime in 2016 with this song and surely more hits in store.

Slow Burner From Total Makeover

Noah Stitelman made music under the moniker Neighbors for quite a while, but has since retired the group for greener pastures in Brooklyn. From the ashes of his old group comes his new project known as Total Makeover. Below you can find the debut single called “New England Highway” which is a slow burner type of pop music featuring a chill vibe. Eventually the chillness builds into a nice and noisy ending sure to get your pulse going.

Total Makeover will drop their debut EP on August 21st.

Hushed Beauty From Monogold

Brooklyn based group Monogold has been know for quite some time as a synth heavy, sort of electronic group full of hooks and dance inducing beats. As one can immediately hear after pressing play on this new track “Orchard Beach”, the band has clearly taken a fairly drastic left turn with its sonic qualities. Personally, I’m loving the new subtle, less is more approach to their songwriting. This single is a much more grown up, mesmerizing, and enchanting approach to things. Carry on.

Monogold will release Good Heavens on August 21st.

Darker Pop From Cultfever

I’ve been rather enjoying this new tune “Youth” by Brooklyn based group Cultfever. It’s a nice bit of pop music with synth heavy beats, and a dash of darkness to provide some mystery and intrigue to the song. Nice Bit of Pop From Hey Anna

Brooklyn based pop artist Hey Anna is a band that most of us probably know very little about though I think you’ll be hearing more about them in the very near future. The group caught my ear yesterday with this promising and delightful new tune “Island”. Pop sensibilities are going crazy in this track with mesmerizing harmonies from the sister trio who make up the band’s core. Let’s not forget the guys in the band either as they provide a backing rhythm to drive it all home.

Hey Anna will be dropping their debut LP Run Koko later this summer. Stay tuned for more deets as we get them.
