Regular readers know that we love the synth-pop jams from our friends at Night Drive. Day for Night will include the Austin/Houston based outfit and I figured I would do a little Q&A action to help preview the awesome festivities. Rodney and Brandon took some time to deal with the usual list of things about life, fests and jams.

We had a couple of excuses to throw a party. It was Free Week. Our friend Pooneh had a birthday. We had merch to sell.
The lineup was all kinds of ATH favorites; Young Girls, Slow, Jonly Bonly, Shivery Shakes and Grape St. As it turned out, Grape’s St‘s Brendan also had a birthday. Isn’t that great. Shout out to Holy Mountain‘s winter diorama.
Pinata. Confetti Eggs. Drink Specials. We were surrounded by friends. Couple comments after the break with a ton of pictures…
This band She’s So Rad hit us up recently to let us know about their new single “Confetti” and I’ve taken a liking to it after a few spins. It’s clearly in the shoe gaze movement, but also has this really nice twee pop element to it with a seriously catchy beat in the background. The New Zealand based group are currently working on a follow up to their 2011 debut In Circles and offer this song as a preview of what’s to come. I’m listening.

As the music season starts to head into full-steam here at the end of January, the Mohawk has a nice little show to offer you this Monday evening: A Lull. The constructionist pop outfit is bring their excellent effort, Confetti, to the live setting for all of you to enjoy, and I promise you that the band’s got a great deal to give in the live setting. It’s similar to the work Animal Collective has done, just a lot less spastic, and a touch more sentimental. Opening the show will be Deleted Scenes and Tape Deck Mountain, so get there early to enjoy all the musical tastiness.

We brought you news of up-and-comers A Lull last summer, and as the year has gone on, they’ve slowly gotten more deserved press with their debut, Confetti. But, they’re not here to rest on their laurels, already prepping a new EP, the Confetti Reprise EP, which will be released on August 16th. You’ll definitely get the pop-constructionist experimentalism here, with tribal beats (including rim shots), swells of noise coming in and out, and vocals atop it all–then it trickles in an entirely different manner towards the end of the track. It’s just another sign that A Lull are on their way to making a solid name for themselves.
