Le Rug Readies Huge Collection of Tracks

lerug1You think a collection takes the hits and puts it all down to a best of, but in the case of the forthcoming release from Le Rug, you’re going to get far more than you’ve bargained; you’re going to get 70 brand new tracks…some dedicated to our presidents, but all filled with hooks. Ray Weiss, the man behind the project, has definitely put his time in here, and each song brims with the need to play it over and over again. I want you to turn this one up really loud and tell me that you don’t like it; I bet you can’t. You can grab Game Over right HERE from Fleeting Youth Records.

Another Track from Company of Selves

companyofselvesCompany of Selves seem to offer an incredible diversity in their sound, as is seen by the deeply moving tune below. When we first heard them they had remnants of art-emo (early Jade Tree stuff comes to mind), but upon delving into this tune they’ve created a pop-centric funeral march, hauntingly pleasant. If you peeled away the vocals, the music would fit perfectly into any haunted house; the vocals are there, however, allowing the song to brim with hope. It’s just another reason why Butterfly Handlers & Memory Travelers should be on your watch list; it’s released by Fleeting Youth Records on September 25th.

Company of Selves Offer Up New Track

companyofselvesPerhaps one of my favorite styles of music is that personal indie folk music.  Still, I’d be remiss if I didn’t reveal that at some point, the genre has a tendency to grow stale, stuck in one place. So, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve looked for the oddity in the genre.  From Bazaan’s word play to Banhart’s odd voice…which is the land that Company of Selves seem to occupy. There’s a warble on the recording, there’s musicianship throughout and it all feels personal. It’s pop music for those with a wandering mind.  The group will release Butterfly Handlers and Memory Travelers on Fleeting Youth Records on September 25th.

Doubting Thomas Cruise Control

doubtingthomasWould love to know more about the story behind the name, Doubting Thomas Cruise Control, but what I do know is that their latest single is pretty solid number in my book. It reminds me a lot of early 2000s indie rock, the kind that often showed up on Jade Tree.  It’s got a casual delivery, yet this slowcore approach to the guitar sound…and I’m a fan of both those things.  It’s another reason to keep an eye on the band as they prep the release of their new album, Remember Me John Lydon Forver; it’s being released on August 14th via our friends at Fleeting Youth Records.

New Music from DIV I DED

divided2The first few seconds of this new single from DIV I DED sets you in line for some traditional female-fronted pop music, but hold on, as the band fills the space behind Viktorie’s voice with this bubbling drum work.  Success in this tune comes via the juxtaposition of the lofty vocals contrasted against the sonic exploration of the band.  I can see where fans of Beach House or Widowspeak would fall in love here, though things are quite a bit louder in your speakers here. The band will be releasing their album, Born to Sleep on cassette via Fleeting Youth Records on July 21st.

Kissing Party Score Pop Hit

kp1The opening guitar lines of this track are misleading, to a certain degree.  It sounds like you might get something a little heavier, something along the line of modern emo revival.  But, when Kissing Party‘s Dierdre tosses in her vocals, it switches the track straight into pop mode.  The band quickly blasts through the two-minute track, sweetly singing its way into your listening for the weekend. It’s reminiscent of recent works by the likes of Standard Fare or Eternal Summers, bordering between indie rock and indiepop; it’s delicious. They’ll be releasing their new album, Looking back it was romantic but at the time I was suffocating, via Fleeting Youth Records on June 30th.

Wake Up With Dreamy Rock From DIV I DED

divided2It’s a Monday, it’s been rainy in Austin and I was having trouble kicking things into gear until I heard this track from Czech band DIV I DED. “Late Awakening” is a track taken from the band’s upcoming album, Born To Sleep, which is coming out July 17th via Fleeting Youth Records. The song kicks off with its cutting guitars that echo through the space of the sound while the vocals from Viktorie Marksova provide the perfect balance of tempered sweetness to the mix. Take a listen below, wake up, and get ready for Born to Sleep out July 17th.

New Music from Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party

deathThis new tune from Surfin Mutants Pizza Party came in the mailbox yesterday, and I really thought it would be a good ditty to share with you midweek.  It’s quick and to the point, but even more remarkable is that the entire project’s been done by one man, Julien Maltais.  To create music alone that’s so well structured (tight even) while working alone is quite a feat, especially considering you don’t have anyone else’s ears to bounce the tune’s off when writing.  It’s the first track off his new album, The Death of Cool, which will be released on May 19th by Fleeting Youth Records.  Fans of punk rock in the vein of Social D will definitely find themselves loving this tune.

Even More New Music From LA Font

LA-FONT-4Our local friends Fleeting Youth Records continue to put out some really great music from a slew of promising young bands.   One of those bands full of promise is L.A. based pop rock group L.A. Font.  Now we already shared new song “Whisperer” just a few weeks ago and today I’m excited to be sharing with you a second new joint called “Outside”.  One again, the band gives us a rock n rollin number that no one could deny is a stellar tune.

Another Fun LA Font Tune

LA FONT 4Just a short while ago we brought you one of the tunes from LA Font, offering you a glimpse at their oddly structured guitar pop, and today we’ve got another one for you.  My ears hear classic sounds of 90s alternative, at least in the way the hooks are built and the chords ring out.  One of the things I like about the group is that they seem to have this strange approach to songwriting, often times slinking their way through tracks, or purposefully stuttering in the song’s progression.  It’s different, yet still has this catchy quality to it.  Look to hear more such sounds on the band’s Hangtime Volume 1 EP, which hits on April 28th via Fleeting Youth Records.
