ACL Interview: Deap Vally

We here at ATH are now counting down the weeks to yet another party time at Austin City Limits Festival. It’s crazy to think how long we’ve been doing this, and yet the excitement continues to remain the same each and every year. We’re doing our usual thing in lead up to the festival with interviews, previews, recommendations, and guides. Already we’ve shared an interview with White Reaper and Nicole told us about 5 things she’s most looking forward to over the weekend. Today I move us forward with a sweet interview from L.A. based rock duo Deap Vally. Hit the jump for full interview.

SXSW Awards – 2017

How is it possible we’re already through SXSW hangover week? It seems like only yesterday the ATH crew was hanging at Hotel Vegas, with Lone Star in hand, kicking off the week a couple of Sundays ago with the awesome lineup put together by Nathan and our boy Mr. Laird. As always, we move on, reflect on the fun behind us, and plan for the next great lineup or festival. Such is the beauty of living in the live music capital of the world. To look back on the festival, Nathan, Brian, and myself came up with an arbitrary list of awards with each of us picking our choice for the category.

Hit the jump for our awards, final thoughts and a few related pics from a fun, exciting, and draining week.

SXSW Interviews: Doe

Last year the Doe released Some Things Last Longer Than You to rave reviews, and they’ve opted to follow up their success by bringing their energetic pop rock to the States for SXSW. We briefly caught up with the entire group to give you a little insight into what they’re all about, as well as toss in a sample track from their last album, which is available via Old Flame now.

SXSW Interview: Slow Caves

Slow Caves are a hook-laden bunch of pop rockers from Fort Collins, making their way towards Austin for SXSW. They’ll be hitting town to spread their name, supporting their new release, The Desert Minded EP (Old Flame), which hits a few days before they blow into town. We tossed them a few quick questions, and they kindly responded. Look for one of their new tracks below too!

SXSW Interview: Split Single

Jason Narducy is a certified indie rock bad ass, having played with Bob Mould, Robert Pollard and Superchunk. It’s been a bit since he took the stage as his own, but he’s been stepping back out under the name Split Single, backed by Britt Daniel and Jon Wurster (those names should ring a bell too). He’s released two albums in the last few years, most recently Metal Frames. There’s a jam from that LP at the end of the interview below.

SXSW Interview: Stef Chura

Stef Chura has been writing infectious rock n’ roll hits in Detroit for some time, but her names is quickly becoming well known to the greater indie rock realm. Most of this is due to her excellent LP, Messes, which hit in January. She took some time out of her busy schedule to answer our questions, and we’ve included her SXSW dates below to let you know where you’ll be able to catch her…and her hit “Spotted Gold” too! All after the jump-a-roo.

SXSW Interview: Pines

When I first heard about the electronic musical stylings of Australian based band Pines a few years ago, I was immediately hooked. Since then, the band always finds some room on my playlists for pretty much any time and feeling. Their music just sort of works that way. As a fan of the band, it was an easy call for me to send them interview questions when they hit me up. Hit the jump for their thoughts on SXSW.

SXSW Interview: Hers

I know for a fact that B. Gray and I have Hers high up on our list of acts to cover at SXSW. This is the new band that’ll make you want to dance your night away, smiling until the end. They’ll be blowing into Austin, a week after the release of the much anticipated Songs of Hers, so sample a tune below. Mark em’ on your calendar for the fest; it’ll be a hot ticket.
