Party time people. That’s right, we are kicking off our SXSW coverage this week and really going into full on preview mode. As we tend to do every year, we will coming at you with a whole slew of interviews in the hopes you will appreciate the varied look on the festival. Today we have a new one answered by New Zealand founded, yet no longer based, Yumi Zouma. As always, hit the jump for full interview.
SXSW is here! Well not literally here, but it is getting ever closer as the days go by. I know it’s hard to believe, as many of us feel like we just recovered from the week long fest yesterday. Well it’s here people and it seems like a perfect time to start preparing. As usual, your friendly ATH staff will be providing previews, playlists and our much anticipated SXSW interviews/questionnaires. Now we send these out to a lot of bands in the hopes you can pick up some varying perspectives on the vast amount of bands coming to town and how they approach the week. Our very first interview this year comes by way of Los Angeles based Matthew Doty and his project known as Deserta. Hit the jump for questions and responses from Doty.
You may have thought our SXSW interviews were over, but you thought wrong! While most of these bad boys ran prior to last week, I did pick up a couple near the end of the festival. This one comes from Glasgow based group The Ninth Wave, who also appeared on my Top 6 to watch list. Ready for one more? Hit the jump.
I think this might be the last interview of the SXSW season; everyone’s in town, so you should read up on last time, grab your friends and go see as many wonderful people as you possibly can. We present you with DISQ, who is high on everyone’s list, so do your best to see them before they’re too big to play your backyard BBQ!
We’re in the thick of it, and yet it’s just started. Me? I’ve already seen 45+ bands in the last three days, so I plan to keep that going. One act on my radar is definitely Living Hour, and they’ve quickly thrown back some answers to our questionnaire. Read more
Many of you are likely out and about today hitting up SXSW shows, though some of you might not quite be done with work. For those of you still stuck at your day job, I have another interview for you from St. Louis based group Shady Bug. Crazy enough, I just featured them on my Top 6 to watch post so of course I was excited to receive our interview questions back from them. Hit the jump to see the responses.
We’re about to wind it up and disappear into the haze that is SXSW, but alas, we’ve got more news from overseas. Cherry Pickles will be here! And, they’ve responded to our questions, courtesy of their label PNKSLM! They’ve got a new record on the way in just under a month, so go on and enjoy the tunes!
At this point, Slow Pulp should already be on your radar; they were picked by NPR as one of the Austin 100 to keep an eye out for SXSW. But, in case you’re not on the up and up, read below for some quick responses from the band as they make their way to Austin.
One of the hottest labels over the last several years has been PNKSLM, bringing us some of the best in Swedish rock n’ roll. We might even have a few of those bands popping up at Barracuda, say tomorrow, for free. But, for now, here’s Magic Potion…get to know them, then go see them!
The madness has begun here in Austin, and if last night’s turnout was any indicator, it’s going to be a crazy week for everyone. We have a few more interviews trickling in, so we wanted to be sure that Balms are on your radar as you make that final push towards SXSW.
