Last week came and went in a flash, but there were definitely a few hits we wanted to remind you about that were on our radar. Two relatively unknown acts on our radar finally dropped their LPs, so be sure to listen to the hits from Pet Owner and Tin-ear. I was fortunate to see a sneak Voxtrot warm-up set before they head out on the road for a quick reunion tour, so made sure I included a jam in there. New Single & Interview From Julie Odell

When we pump out all this new music, it’s also often fun to get a little perspective from the individuals who actually make this music to hopefully give you some insight into your favorite artists. Today I am straight amped to share with you the new single “Envelope” from New Orleans based artist Julie Odell along with some short interview questions. Quiet Songwriting From Julie Odell

Now, not much is known about Julie Odell, other than she’s from New Orleans, but she seems to specialize in folksy piano songs. I stumbled across this track the other day, and I honestly didn’t really know what to do with it, or if I even liked it. Immediately, you get the Regina Spektor notion, and while I respect that songwriting queen I am reluctant to enjoy anything that tries to be just another version of that. However, as the song progresses, it changes from bouncey piano and accompanying cheery vocals to a darker side, and the piano gently winds down to a more somber tune, which is always the step in the right direction. Have a listen and see what you feel about the track.
