Carpet Burn Share New B-Sides

Just in case you missed last year’s Carpet Burn 7″ EP, there’s now a reason to revisit, as the band have just built in two B-sides for a compilation cassette. As you can tell on the newer tunes, the group have added in a sense of humor to their DIY pop sounds, which makes them all the more endearing, to us (and their label Spoilsport!). While “A Little More” very much feels like a Melbourne bit of pop, “Pencils and Sharpeners” expands that sound, delving into something a little more on the psychedelic tip. It’s a wonderful addition to an already great 7″, and now with the working title of I Can’t Believe Its Not the A-Side. available today on cassette via Spoilsport!

No Zu Announce New EP + Share Liquid Love

It’s been quite a few years since we’ve heard original music from “heat beat” pioneers No Zu, but after the passing of member Daphne Camf in 2021, the band have regrouped to record a fresh EP for Chapter Music. Personally, they’ve crafted this undefinable sound, something that maybe blends a bit of every element that ever evolved on the dance floor into one cohesive sound. This new track wears some of the shades of post-punk, though there’s this sort of old school disco vibe to some of the accompanying vocal work. But, that’s just the beginning as the song twists into an almost jazzy funk party with dance floor ready vocal punctuation, delivering cool every step of the way. Then it all devolves into this cacophonous freakout of noise before slinking back into that throbbing groove. Their Heat Beat EP will be delivered to your door on November 18th.

Laura Jean Shares Too Much to Do Video

Laura Jean‘s new album Amateurs will drop in November, but today we get another glimpse at the world being crafted for listeners. This song does a great job teasing the listener, utilizing a vibrant piano and vocals as the backbone, with little string bits meant to create tension in step with those forceful piano lines. And, just as you think the song might not travel further, it drops in at the 1:36 mark, kicking off this insatiable groove that has you bobbing and weaving as the string work continues to add structure to the tune itself. Still, the song keeps building in a sense, with the vocals hitting an almost blissed out angelic tone, creating this sort of climactic moment that ends just as you feel it peak! A glorious 3 Act song you can easily adore this morning. Amateurs drops November 4th via Chapter Music.

Don Glori Share Ponte Single

Sometimes, and I know it’s completely on me, but I feel like my musical tastes can sometimes get one-note, especially on here. But, I love all sort of stuff, and probably have some sort of musical ADHD, which is why I’ve just been drinking my coffee and jamming this track from Don Glori, the recording project of Melbourne’s Gordon Li. The project has just announced a debut LP, Welcome, and this first single is a collage that moves from a soulful Latin groove into an almost classical-oriented lounge act, though in doing this seamlessly, you’re just sitting there with your head spinning, lost in the chilled vibes Li has built for us all. The debut LP will be out on October 14th courtesy of Bedroom Suck Records.

Post-Punker From Heir Traffic

Heir Traffic is a post-punk inspired band out of Melbourne with five lads who’ve been creating tunes and quietly releasing them over the last few years without a whole lot of press. As fans of their music, and also someone who wants to help young artists succeed, consider this a full endorsement of the band’s music. You’ll find several tracks on the band’s bandcamp page, but this new one, “Bogged,” is their latest in promotion of an upcoming album entitled NO HEARTH. It’s a noisy, energy filled affair with expert musicianship and loads to divulge and come back to. Love this stuff.

Heir Traffic will release NO HEARTH on August 26th. A limited vinyl run of the release is up for pre-order now.

Free Time Share Jangle Jargon Title Track + Video

A few weeks back, we got the strikingly sparky “That’s Rare” from the forthcoming Free Time LP. Below, you’ll find the Jangle Jargon’s title track in video format, revealing a more pensive brand of guitar pop from Dion. We join Dion (and dog), canoeing alongside him in still waters while the gentle strum paddles us downstream; it’s a mellower turn than the opening single, allowing the listener more of an immersive experience. Just at the 2:22 mark or so the percussive element gives us a bit of a gallop, with Nania relishing the mantra of “jangle jargon” before the song erupts into a bit of pop exploration, guitars noodling as Dion accompanies in visual interpretive dance. A different journey down the river, but one that’s as equally rewarding as its predecessor; Jangle Jargon drops on September 30th via Bedroom Suck Records.

Premiere: Psych Pop Stunner From Sunfruits

Having recently sung the praises of Birmingham, AL based label Earth Libraries, I am not surprised to once again be receiving some banging new jams from them in my inbox. Today they traveled all the way to Melbourne to bring a new single called “Made to Love” from the psych-pop outfit Sunfruits. Overall, I love the sunny, bright energy of the track with some hints of psych pop and totally rocking rhythm section. Think late 60s psych rock/pop like Spirit with a more modern and sleek approach. Hard not to hit repeat on this one immediately after it ends.

Earth Libraries will be bringing more from Sunfruits real soon. Stay tuned.

Elizabeth Shares Happier Now Video

Since stepping away from Totally Mild and going it her own, Elizabeth has done nothing short but amaze me. Her voice has always been one strikingly bold, but on her latest single, she seems to take it even further, stretching those tones into full powerhouse mode! While the Wonderful World of Nature had ties to her earlier work, feeling like a natural step away from her previous outfit, this new single is as bold as her voice, fully immersing Elizabeth into the pop world. The synth notes sound sad, matching the persona, though the powerful drop in at 2:34 shows Elizabeth isn’t messing around; she’s “happier now,” after all.

CLAMM Share Monday Video

If you’re feeling anxious, this new CLAMM thing is going to be the perfect catharsis or it’s going to set you off…either way, it’s a ripper that you should play at the loudest volume possible. Feedback and thunderous drum work open the song before this dangerously frantic guitar line starts to wiggle its way into the picture. That angular cut at such pace creates this sort of ominous bounce to it, setting up the double barrage of vocals we get from the trio here. They rip through, and the video adds an extra layer as they seem to be barking directly at us, only increasing the feeling of the knife’s edge that runs throughout the track. Their new album Care is going to blast into our lives on August 19th, courtesy of Chapter Music/Meat Machine.

Vintage Crop Share The Bloody War

In a little over a month, we’re going to have a new Vintage Crop LP to enjoy, and for my meaningless two cents, it’s shaping up quite nicely. There’s a new track out from the LP, and despite it’s punky garage tendencies, the band are slowing things down to mix up the vibe; imagine Amyl and the Sniffers coming down off that sugar high…this song is the crash in musical form. Building in gang vocals on the song’s back half adds some texture to the tune, giving it this bubbly effervescence. Kibitzer is out on June 24th via Upset the Rhythm and Anti Fade.
