Artsick Announce Fingers Crossed LP for Slumberland Records

Christina Riley has certainly been keeping herself busy as of late, as a member of Boyracer…and I’m pretty sure she shot the video for the Kids on a Crime Spree video too…but this time, we’re talking about her new project Artsick. The project came about as Christina was relishing working on collaborating, so she grabbed Mario from the aforementioned Kids, and Donna from Lunchbox to create the most delicious bit of ramshackle pop you’ve heard in years. It’s noisy and boisterous, bouncing and joyous, yet tightly wound around a saccharine melody you’ll want to sing around your house all day long. The only bummer? Well, you’ll have to wait until January for Fingers Crossed to hit stores courtesy of Slumberland Records.

Kids On A Crime Spree Announce Fall In Love Not In Line

It’s been a hot minute since Kids On A Crime Spree dropped their debut We Love You So Bad EP, though they’ve managed to sprinkle in a 7″ here or there. Luckily, a wait for new music has paid off, with the band announcing today that they’ll be releasing a new LP, Fall In Love Not In Line, early next year. The band wastes no time opening up with this fast shredding guitar line and a furiously pounding rhythm section, both parts trying to see who can beat the other to the finish line. But, central to the band’s success is Mario Hernandez’ vocals, offering up this soft melodic underbelly to the track, though still seemingly tethered to a faint punk ethos that keeps the song’s edge. Feel like the thematic nod from the lyrics ties perfectly into all of our lives, and also into the band itself, with the refrain of “when can I see you again.” Pretty sure this song rules, and you’re going to want to grab the LP! Fall In Love Not In Line drops on January 22nd via Slumberland Records.

Stream Crabber’s Latest LP, Who Let the Ducks Out

We’ve covered German outfit Crabber since their first LP a few years back, and, well, I feel like I’d be remiss if I didn’t encourage you to take a peak at Who Let the Ducks Out, the band’s latest LP. This go round, you can start with a little nod towards the crisp jangling pop of the Lucksmiths on opener “Climb Into My Mind,” and its a sound that pops up throughout the whole of the LP. But, you also get a bit of a heavier edge, a la early Boyracer, albeit with a push towards the more melodic; you can just listen to “A Kind of Tragic,” to get where I’m coming from here. Each time I listen, a new reminder pops up, so let me sum it all up for you. This new record is specifically for those who love Field Mice, Lucksmiths, Buzzcocks and Boyracer…then all the various bus stops in between. Seriously, just stream this album; its available via Jigsaw Records!

Another LP is Coming from The Reds, Pink and Purples

Somewhere out in the Ohio, Rob Pollard is cursing Glenn Donaldson; he’s wondering how he’s been upstaged by Glenn’s brilliant songwriting and release schedule with the Reds, Pinks and Purples. You see, Glenn’s climbing the mountain towards peak pop performances, having already released the stunning Uncommon Weather earlier this year. Now, Summer at Land’s End has just been announced for a February release date. While it’s clear that I’m a Donaldson fan, I think one of the things I enjoy about this first single is the space that’s left in the song; the twinkling star guitar chords hang crisp in the air blanketed by Glenn’s voice, but you’ll also hear the perfect emptiness in the tune to let your mind drift far away. Congratulations to us on getting to experience an incredible songwriter just now hitting their stride. Summer at Land’s End is out February 4th via Slumberland/Tough Love.

Lewsberg Drop In Your Hands LP

I had no idea we were getting a new Lewsberg LP until a little email popped up in ye old inbox, but man, this Friday just got infinitely better…for me anyways. If you’ve never listened to the Dutch group before, I suggest setting aside some time to spend with the band today…and might I add you can start off with 2020’s In This House. It’s early in the morning, and I’m just diving in here, so not sure which of the tracks will be my favorite, but I think those of you who are into bands like Smog or Low will surely find yourselves a comforting listen on this Friday. US fans can grab the In Your Hands from 12XU.

Secret Shame Share Victoria Single

We raved about Secret Shame when they dropped their Dissolve/Pure 7″, and now the band have jumped back in with this heavy bit of dark rock n’ roll. The band were approached by filmmaker Jamieson Ridenhour to write a tune for his new film, Bloodbath-Victoria’s Secret, which seems to have kickstarted the songwriting process…as we hear this track is also leading towards a new LP for next year. The riffs, as you’d expect for a horror film, are dark and edgy, though that shouldn’t surprise any fans of the band. I love how they’re still making this sound their own, turning in some light melodic moments in the chorus that keep me coming back to enjoy this Asheville act. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more on the new LP!

Monsoon Drop Don’t Move Video

Felt like we should hit up Thursday by starting off with some catchy hooks and blasting riffs! Good thing we’ve got this tune from Athens’ (Georgia) Monsoon. This song works back and forth between a sedate ballad and a hook laden pop rock tune, adding in these great little details that give the tune a bit of flare. Plus, just as you’re hooked on the style, there’s this closing change in direction, hinting at some of the artistry that’s lurking in their forthcoming Ghost Party LP. The album will be out next year, so for now, you can sit back and enjoy this fresh single!

Blushing Announce Possessions LP

Long long ago, in a galaxy here in Austin, we helped release one of Blushing‘s earlier EPs; they’ve since gone onto bigger things, and now the news is out that they’ve signed with Kanine to release their new LP, Possessions. The first single is a delight, not just because it features Miki Berenyi (of Lush), but also because it shows continued growth in their sound. I love the various movements within the song itself; this song’s got those dreamy jangles to open up the score, but also fades right into this gritty indie rock feel, before splitting wide open to allow for Miki’s voice to drape across the sonic groundwork they’ve put before you. Should be exciting to hear the whole LP when it comes to fruition; the new LP drops in February of next year.

Farewell Horizontal Share I’ll Miss This Headache

I’ve been jamming a lot of Farewell Horizontal as of late, and I feel like you should too. I don’t want to minimalize their talent, but I feel like the duo have a sound that seems fairly simple; there’s no frills or necessary ambiance to disguise missteps. Their songs are just pure, unfettered pop rock. They’ve got these huge riffs that have just the right amount of distortion to make you feel like you’ve got morning fuzz on your teeth, but not outlandish enough to lose sight of the song’s melodic inclinations. There’s this faint little shift in the intonation on Pat’s vocals in the opening lines that just gets me every time I press play. Don’t be afraid to indulge on the good old rock n’ roll. Be sure to give their new album You’re Not an Empath a solid listen or two!

22 Halo Announces New Album

You ever fall in love with a band on the very first track you hear? Well, admittedly, I didn’t know much about 22 Halo until today when our friend Jon over at Lost Sound Tapes shared that he’d lined them up for a new tape. And, so I pressed play. Sweet seductive discord! Those crisp guitar notes rang out immediately, united almost instantly with thudding rhythm and heavy vocals, and I couldn’t pull myself away from the tune at all. Then there’s a counter vocal, balancing the track with this perfectly feathered vocal that takes some of the more angular notes and forces them to feign smooth. They seem like one of those bands very much caught up in the current music climate, yet wholly unique, so I’m here for it. “Ripple” is just a tease at what’s to come with Garden Bed, out October 29th via Lost Sound Tapes!
