Touch Girl Apple Blossom Share Sidewalk Video

One of the under the radar gems that I didn’t discover until a bit late in the game was the debut EP from Touch Girl Apple Blossom, and they were right in my own backyard (metaphorically, not actually!). This Austin quartet sounds a bit like they’ve taken all the charm from acts such at Juliana Hatfield and Diet Cig, borrowed the hooks, then run away to pile a little bit of grit and atmosphere to the mixture. It’s sort of like an amalgam of pop and weirdo, which is everything I absolutely love. So, now that I’m all over the band, I wanted you to be too, which is why I bring you their fresh video for “Sidewalk,” with a reminder their EP is now available via 7″!

Six Organs of Admittance Share The Mission + Announces Time is Glass

It’s strange how the world works, as my brain definitely feels a bit like wandering about, kind of drifting. As I sit down this morning with that presence, the music in my inbox seems fittingly matched, particularly this new Six Organs of Admittance tune. Ben Chasny’s voice alone wins me over here, dripping with emotion as the hairs on your arms stand-up. Musically, and forgive me as my brain wanders, but this tune feels like being lost in some great expanse of nature, and from the hills you hear this song echoing, bounding down and calling you home, distant but all encompassing; it feels timeless, like the world has beckoned you to find your place of peace. Perhaps that is what Ben has found on his new record, Time is Glass, which drops on April 26th via Drag City.

David Nance & Mowed Sound Share Tumbleweed

Omaha based musician came out of the gate strong in 2024 with his new single “Mock The Hours” with his new band David Nance & Mowed Sound. While that song really cranked up the twang and country rock vibes, this latest single called “Tumbleweed” takes things down a peg for a more subtle approach. It features some delicate guitar plucking along with lovely vocal harmonies and an overall sense of beauty. Dig it below.

Omni Release New Video For Plastic Pyramid

Well as per usual, RayRay is running a bit late on some new music news, but often times things can be of a high enough level to share even if a tad tardy. As some of you maybe read elsewhere, our old Atlantean pals Omni have their first new album in five years coming out later this year. New excerpts are coming in slowly from the release, including this new video for standout track “Plastic Pyramid” which dropped just a few days ago. It features a quirky, math rock styling with a catchy beat and guest vocals from Izzy Glaudini.

This track and 10 more will be available on the upcoming new album entitled Souvenir, due out February 16th. Ya dig.

The BVs Share Taking Pictures of Taking Pictures

What I’ve always adored about the BVs is their adherence to building albums where each tune feels purposeful; there’s intent in the style and the placement of tracks. It seems like we’re nearing another bit of that with their latest LP, if we’re to compare and contrast this new single with their first. “Clipping” came out at the end of last year, arriving as this bounding piece of energetic pop. But, today, they share the title track of their new album, and it’s a much more pensive piece, building slowly, churning and turning in upon itself a reflection of the imagery that flashes through the video (created and animated by the band’s Fred). Pictures flash and fade away, with drawings moving like op-art, where you’re unsure whether its the song or the image moving…or both. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the 2:40 moment hits and the exuberant nature of the band begins to shine through; lyrics are delivered more quickly and the drums seem to have a bit more snap, shifting the tune ever so slightly, naturally creating this feeling of longing that I hope you’ll love. Taking Pictures of Taking Pictures will be out on February 16th via Shelflife/KUS!

Longwave Share Tidal Wave Video + Celebrate 20 Yrs of The Strangest Things

There are a lot of early 00s albums that people talk about as sort of like masterpieces from the Brooklyn scene of that era, but if you ask me, one of the most oft overlooked is Longwave‘s the Strangest Things. Every song on that record rips, and I’m so glad they’re doing a reissue for the 20th anniversary of the LP…though I’ll admit it does make me feel a bit old. Still, the distinctive gurgle of the bass with that crisp guitar line…all waiting to drop in the drum beat, still reverberates 20 years on. Oh, the chorus…still one of my favorite pieces of that era…timeless and melodic…while others were pushing away from that. Check the video where you’ve got old tour footage resurfacing for the first time! If you dig, the reissue drops at the end of the month, so you should be sure to get your hands on it!

 

Happy Like This Video from the Wind-Ups

A little over a month ago, the Wind-Ups dropped their latest LP, Happy Like This…and today we get a video version of the album’s title track. For all intents and purposes, it’s a skate promo, which matches up with the song’s lyrical content…”I’m happy like this.” Musically, you could file it under a mixture between various genres of punk; it’s a little bit gritty in spots, but also manages to sound huge and anthemic like you’d expect from a Spits record. Just goes to show that a little bit of proper noise can go a long way. If you’re interested in hearing more, might we suggest picking up Happy Like This from Mt. St. Mtn.

New Bop from Terry Venomous

Somewhere in between the lines of King Krule and the Fall, you’ll find the work of Liverpool’s Terry Venomous. Thought his latest track from his forthcoming EP would be an easy way to slide right into Friday. This tune revolves around a steady little beat that stays locked locked in the groove. Light keys twinkle and guitars sway and swing all around the vocal delivery, which carries a bit of a heavy smoker croon. It’s a super casual way to kick your Friday right into gear, letting you get your playful best ready so you can go out and win today! Look for a new EP in April!

Elephant Stone Celebrate Another Year Gone

It’s your local Elephant Stone fanboy here, back at it with another fresh track from the band, furthering our excitement for Back Into the Dream. This new one’s a short and sweet number, with a pure pop bent, sounding as classic pop rock as you can get. Their video performance is an ode to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” though I’ll tell you that the track itself has Beatles written all over it…and that’s never a bad thing, especially when its done as well as this lot does it! Little Cloud Records will be dropping the LP on February 23rd, so go ahead, and get on it.

It’s always crazy to me how a video can completely sell a song, or a band as is the case with Get Wrong. The band, comprised of Adam from Spook School and Naomi from Martha, have just released their debut EP, which offers their pop sensibility spun through a more beat-oriented world. But, this video manages to catch the spirit of the two artists, grinning from ear to ear as they walk about the countryside, even scrubbing down a huge hog. That joy manages to shine through in their songwriting, so you’ll best be served by bopping to this tune, then be sure you stream the rest of their Get Wrong EP (courtesy of Father Daughter Records and Alcopop).
