Last Week’s Jams (7.24 – 7.28)

We may have gone a bit overboard last week, as I see that we covered over 25 different tunes last week. But, that being said, we also ran some gosh-darned freaking hits. I loved that new jam from Split System, and have played it well over 50 times at this point. That, and that new track from Prewn pretty much made my week. I mean, there’s new stuff from Woods, Night Drive and all sorts bonus EP coverage for Death Bells and Bedroom Eyes. Plenty of stuff to dig into, so why not get on it, eh?

Last Week’s Jams (4.3 – 4.7)

There was a ton of great music dropping last week, which seems to be the norm for this Spring…not that we mind one bit. I tried to give some love to our Austin friends like Jana Horn and Letting Up Despite Great Faults, who both dropped new releases…and new tunes from Batty Jr. and Born Twins too, so keeping the ATX alive. It was good to hear new stuff from Estonia’s Pia Fraus, who’ve always crafted great landscape shoegaze. New stuff from Cindy and Beach Fossils wasn’t a bad way to slide into the week either, but we closed it out with a fun feature between My Favorite and Holy Wire. Check it all out.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (11.28 – 12.2)

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve run our weekly recap, but last week we covered a ton of ground, so why not give you a chance to see what all we were digging on our end? It was good to see Trouble in Mind with a couple of new releases we’re likely to enjoy from Martin Frawley and Connections. We also got to meet new supergroup from Melbourne, Equal Parts and their debut single. Plus, we even got to dip our toes in the Austin waters, with a new Daily Worker tune and a live recording from Balmorhea. Browse below, see what you’re into…likely all of it?

Enjoying Singles from Coeur Joie

The good thing about mellow music weeks is that you get a chance to indulge in tunes you might have missed or you can prepare from forthcoming releases from friends. So, here I’ve been listening to French outfit Coeur Joie (translates to heart joy) before the release of their new album tomorrow, and I immediately wanted to share the tunes, despite my limitations with the French language. Somethings supersede lyrical content, and these tracks have that emotional appeal where it just hits you immediately, burying you in a listening cocoon that lets you escape from the world. They release Allumettes au bout des iles tomorrow on Hidden Bay Records, so be sure to enjoy the samples below, and grab the whole meal tomorrow!

The Week in Music

Nathan and I are constantly coming up with new ideas for the website to better offer you all unique coverage and even easier access to new musical endeavors. Today we thought we’d toss around the idea of offering up a weekly playlist to serve as a recap from the past week. Now these tunes are mostly taken straight from the pages of Austin Town Hall, but others might be things we missed out on or initially passed up for whatever reason. So my peeps, I give you the best of, from last week. Hope it makes your Monday a bit better. Kick out the jams.

Best of 2020 Thus Far…According to Nathan

We all say these lists are arbitrary, and yet in the end, we get sucked into making our own…mostly because it seems like other people got it so wrong. But, then looking at my personal list, and it’s no wonder we’re not in the cool kids club, because these records are not seeming to make the big time lists. Oh well. Here’s my awards for 2020 thus far…plus, in the very end I have a very nice 10 hr playlist of all my favorite songs of the year, one jam for each day in 2020, save the holidays!

Super Catchy Number From Leeches

Happy hump day! Hopefully you are surviving yet another work week, and your guy RayRay is here to help you with your struggle. My new friends in Dorest based rock band LEECHES have this new song called “Fuerte Ventura” which should motivate you to get through this day. It’s a hook laden, psych rock number sure to inspire some head nodding and toe tapping. Also, love the rhythm section on this one, especially the drumming technique.

Leeches are planning to release one track a month until July 3rd when they will drop the entire collection as an album called Easy. That one is coming via Leisure Records.

The Best in Indiepop of 2015

indiepopTons of genres out there, but if you’ve been following our work, you know that I’m really partial to the indiepop scene. I scour the confines of the Internet for any and the best of the genre, and admittedly get tons of tips. So, I looked back through what had come out and wanted to throw a little bit your way…just another list of what I think was the best in indiepop in 2015. Still staying away from numbering. Also…some of this has made my other lists, but I wanted to expand on my favorite genre a little bit. Read more

Fuzzy Rocker from Sun Voyager

voyagesJust a few weeks ago I dropped a tune from Sun Voyager in regards to their forthcoming split with Greasy Hearts, but they’ve just unleashed another new tune for a label comp that’s coming your way soon.  This track is the perfect blow-your-hair-back psych rock that makes for great liver performances; it’s got this sludgy deep riff that rattles your soul, while the vocals wobble in atmospheric fashion atop it all.  This is for fans that like the heavier side of psych rock…and really, just those that want to rock on a Monday.

New Music from Guantanamo Baywatch (SXSW Act)

gbAh, yes, it’s time for the Suicide Squeeze Singles to start rolling out, and they’re starting with a bang.  Their new series begins with a split between ATH favorites Shannon and the Clams and Guantanamo Baywatch.  Last time I heard from GB, they were rocking a sweaty punk style, but this new jam seems like the perfect fit for a shared 7″ with Shannon.  It’s a country-tied garage jam with a slow pace and lyrics that will allow you optimal sing-a-long fun.  This single will hit stores on April 29th, but you can catch the band playing throughout Austin during SXSW, including the SS Party with our friends at Hardly Art on March 14th.
