Those clever Brits in Gomez have been around for over a decade, and yet, they’ve never really broken huge overseas, that is until recently. Their consistency and dedication have finally broken through, and the band is getting much deserved acclaim over in los Estados Unidos. You can catch them for free today at Waterloo Records at 5 PM or you can catch them outside at Stubbs on the very same evening! Catch one or catch both and you’ll be glad you did.

Balmorhea @ Stubbs (5/22)

One of our newest and favorite local discoveries of the last year, Balmorhea, are playing another sure to be great show at Stubbs on Friday night. Pompeii and Alex Dupree and The Trapdoor band will take the stage as well to open things up. Tickets for this show are $10 from Front Gate and doors open at 9:30. Friday night is jammed packed full of goodness, so you’ve got some big decisions to make.

If you aren’t making it out to Crystal Method on Tuesday night, make your way over to Stubbs for a sweet little lineup of now veteran punk rockers at Stubbs. Your lineup includes openers Street Dogs, ATH faves Alkaline Trio, and old schoolers The Offspring. Tickets can still be bought for this one at a cost of $35.

From The Closet: Cake

We wanted to bring you some Cake this week to celebrate the band’s upcoming appearance at Stubbs on Tuesday the 28th (tickets are sold out btw). Our from the closet jam, “Frank Sinatra”, has long been a favorite of mine. It was also my first exposure to the band oh so many years ago and still sounds as fresh as ever. You can hear it as the opening track on the band’s breakthrough 1996 album Fashion Nugget.

An Evening At Stubbs (4/7)

Stubb’s has a very impressive lineup on their inside and outside stage this Tuesday evening. First off, the outside stage features ATH dance hall favorite Ratatat, who will bring the damn house down for sure. Tussle and Despot are in support outside and kick things off around 8pm. Tickets for this one have been sold out for a while so try to find a scalper.

As soon as the dance party ends outside, head inside for a more mellow ATH favorite Great Lake Swimmers (check out the new album review). Kate Maki is in support and starts around 11pm. Tickets for this show are $12 and wristbands from the earlier show do not grant access to the inside stage. Thank you Stubbs.

Stubb’s has a great lineup on Tuesday featuring headliner Neko Case and beloved Austin band Shearwater opening. Doors for this show are at 7:30 and tickets are on sale now for $20. Neko Case is currently touring in support of her new album Middle Cyclone which features the single “Some People Got a Lot of Nerve”.

We bring you the rock this week to coincide with Chris Cornell brining his new solo act to town Monday at Stubb’s. We hope that this reminds you about how completely insane this new project with Timbaland is. Remember the rock? We do. And hey!
