Summer Salt Release Another New Single

Long ago, we could claim responsibility for helping Summer Salt to new heights, having released 2 EPs with the band on our label. But, now all the success is on the band and their hard work; they tour non-stop, driven by playing to all their fans. Andwith that success comes new label, Epitaph, who will be releasing the group’s newest effort, Happy Camper at the end of September. This is perhaps the best way for you to start off your week, with the band offering their take on traditional harmonies, maximized by Matt’s ever-powerful harmonies atop the band’s work.

Summer Salt Get Spooky

The boys in Summer Salt are hard at work on their debut full-length, but you’ve got to take some time off to keep it light…which the boys did with this great new little Halloween ditty. While the lyrical content might lean towards the spookier side, you can still find the band’s perfect harmonies lurking around. A fun track from one of our favorites…and just a friendly reminder to grab their So Polite EP that we dropped this summer; they also have some really rad pins for your Winter jacket.

Brand New Summer Salt

The weather’s slightly warmer here in Austin, and with the onset of Spring, we all welcome the breezy pop of Summer Salt. They’ve been quietly working on finishing up their debut LP, but in the meantime have completed a beautiful new So Polite EP that we’ll help get out into the world in the Summer. As much as I love these guys, I’m continually impressed by M. Terry’s voice; I love his control as they switch from the verse to the gentle calm into the chorus. While you enjoy the smile creeping on your face as you listen, look for the band to hit the road with The Walters next week. Dates are below this sweet song.

Show Pics: The Ocean Party @ Cheer Up (2/28)

Our friends The Ocean Party made it to the US again to do a spell of touring. Their reason for coming to Austin was to visit sports bars, wear thongs while riding bicycles and crush some chicken-fried steak. Since that was all easily accomplished in a single 80’s montage, a show was in order. Given the affection we have for the Aussie’s, it would be natural to want to see them at a friendly venue with a friend-filled lineup. Cheer Up played host and joining the bill was Daphne, Summer Salt and Shivery Shakes.

I have a great big gallery of photos to share after the break along with a few comments.

Show Preview: The Ocean Party Comes to Cheer Up Charlies (2/28)

I encourage you all to head out tomorrow night to Cheer Up Charlies. There’s a huge line-up of great pop music, some of which I’ve had a hand in putting out on vinyl. For instance, we’ve helped The Ocean Party from Australia put out Light Weight in the US, and this might be one of the few chances you get to see the band live! Second, you’ll have Shivery Shakes and Summer Salt, both perennial pop powerhouses who we’ve released stuff from in the past (and present). Plus, you’ll get to hear Daphne, which is Santiago from Growl‘s other project, as well as Summer Swells. You won’t find a better bill in town, and it’s free, with donations highly encouraged to help out The Ocean Party while on tour in the States. Sample some tunes below, and see you tomorrow at 9 PM.

Show Pics: Mean Jolene Record Release

mean-jolene-release-03Just before the madness of Sound on Sound Fest (roundup and galleries coming soon), ATH records hosted a little get together at Cheer Up for Mean Jolene’s Salty.

Half of the band, Jolie and Adam, were still on a Cubs related high. What better way to celebrate a historic World Series win than by releasing a record? Will and Ben may or may not have been hungover. The band had too many friends and too much fun. Tiger tall boys. Tater tots. Satin jackets. Flying earrings.

Joining in on the festivities were Talkies, The Bond Twins, HeyBaby and Summer Salt, so pics after the break. Sorry to Summer Salt for hitting the wall after a long day.

Check Out These Sofar Sessions From Your ATH Faves

athrecsY’all should know by now that the bands on Austin Town Hall Records are excellent, but in case you were having any doubts about that (you’re crazy) or were wanting more to love from these bands, you’re definitely in luck, as two of our very own have recorded live Songs From a Room sessions. Below, you can see the alt-country boys of Plantation do a rendition of “Your Bones” or catch the chill vibes of Summer Salt as they do a version of “Time Away From Home.” On “Your Bones” you get the bleeding emotional alt-country that Plantation does so well, and on “Time Away From Home,” Summer Salt go acoustic and allow the vocals to really soar. Take a listen and then go snag copies ofMostIntellectualand theGoing Native EP from the ATH Records Store.

Show Pics: ATH Goes Back To School

Summer SaltNathan summed it up in a book face post. He, with Mike’s help, runs a label that is proud of the content, proud of the people, happy to be helping bands in Austin have merch to sell and fund the next project. It is a ton of work; pursuing, promoting, logistics and coordination. I am happy to be associated with ATH records.

Hit the read more and view the greatness of Pollen Rx, Mean Jolene, Rose Selavy, Plantation Band, Young Girls, Basketball Shorts, Summer Salt and Shivery Shakes (in drag).

Diners Play Pop

dinersIt’s interesting hearing Diners work with Asian Man Records; I always associate that label with a lot of good pop punk. But, with Diners, they’re just giving you straight pop, of the infectious sort. It borders on the line between Jens Lekman, Dent May andSummer Salt…beach vibes, good hooks and harmonies. I reckon it never matters who puts it out as long as someone loves it, and I think you’ll love this one. Summer vibes with a nostalgic story line. Look for the band’s new album, Three, on September 16th.
