Introducing: Moon Types

moonieAnother day, another great song coming to you from Jigsaw Records. This time the label has teamed up with new Swedish act Moon Types, and dammit if these aren’t some of the enjoyable indiepop songs I’ve come across in the last few weeks.  I like how there’s a Southern rambling in the execution of the guitar chords, accompanied by these great male/female vocal pieces that perfect the purity of pop songwriting. They’ll be releasing their Know the Reason 7″ later this summer, so keep your eyes peeled for your new favorite Swedish band.

New To You: Rheya

rheyaOn occasion, when looking for new tunes to share with you all, I find a song that’s more than a few days old that’s simply too good to ignore. Such was the case when I stumbled across Swedish band Rheya and their soft, yet gorgeous dream pop. As soon as you press play on “Franchise,” you’ll understand; the sound that comes out of your speakers will remind you of an even dreamier and lusher Wild Nothing. Simply put, I’ve had this song on repeat all day and it’s time you did too: the balance of each music element melts into each other seamlessly and with such allure that it’s impossible not to sway/shimmy along with this tune.

Uplifting Pop from Little Children

littleWe all need a little pick me up, and for many of us, that’s best when it comes to moving music.  Some people look for a hard edge to get out their pent-up aggression, but others, like myself, look for the perfect pop song to really bring my spirits up to par.  This new track from Little Children has really done its job since it came out a few days ago; I’m particularly fond of the raspy quality in the vocals.  It’s no surprise that this is a collective from Sweden as the style fits the soft pop that’s been popularized in the country since we were able to invade their musical landscape.  You can find the song on the band’s Traveling Through Darkness EP, which comes out on June 2nd.

Spiritual Ballad from Sea Lion

Sea Lion | TurnstileThis tune floated into the inbox, and I was immediately taken aback.  Something about the emotion in the simplest piano chords got to me, then the distinct vocals of Linn Osterberg, who claims Sea Lion as her project lightly shown through the song. While the song stays in once place, there’s this huge pull for the listener, bringing the listener deep into a trance within the track.  At the moment, she’s working on finishing her debut album, but this track felt really special to me, so I had to share it with you. Happy Friday to you.

Bright Indiepop from Azure Blue

Azure-BlueIt’s not been too long since we last heard from Azure Blue, but I welcome their return nonetheless.  The groove in their latest single has this vibe that seems like it was ready for college dance floors in the late 80s/early 90s.  Still, the echoed wash that coats the vocals provides a different view, turning the song from a dance tune into a powerful bit of dreamy indiepop.  You’ll even hear the song explore some darker EDM territory as it nears its close; I’m definitely glad I’ve got this song to jam to today. Look for Beneath the Hill I Smell the Sea to hit later this year via Fika Recordings.

Huge Wall of Noise from Makthaverskan

Makrhaverskan fotograferad av Jessica LundWell hello Sweden! Feel like you’ve been quiet for too long.  But, now I feel like Makthaverskan makes up for it the absence. Aside from the nod to Pussy Riot in the artwork, they take that Swedish sound of jangling guitar ring and fill it with a bit more noise; it sounds like a sloppier (albeit intentional) version of Love Is All.  The vocals have this siren quality, haunting the track and the listener while the rest of the band works furiously to provide a more rocking element.  Still, there’s a harmony to the voice that’s utterly intoxicating.  Definitely a track to keep in your rotation this weekend. This tune will appear on a Tour 7″ they’ll be bringing to the States for their huge Spring tour.

Noisy Number from Sweden’s RA

10931072_854818211237398_8019584073532237023_nOh Sweden how I love you. Sometimes you’re soft and gentle, then other times you’re noisy and chilling. RA definitely gets the nod for the noisy side of things.  They’ve got this wall of guitar noise that shreds your speakers; it sounds dangerous (like what you remember IceAge sounding like before they were boring). They’ve completed their debut, Scandinavia, after working through a ton of singles, so I wanted to get this out there on your radar. Adrian Recordings will be handling the release on March 3rd of this year.

Subtle Beauty From Let’s Say We Did

10298844_10152394288034461_8896894746492236296_nIt’s rare that I find a band who can be so mellow, almost hushed with their sound, and yet still be so powerful and captivating with the end product.  That’s just what I’ve found today with new band to me Let’s Say We Did.  Now these guys hail from Stockholm, and it seems a fitting birthplace, as these songs could easily be the soundtrack to an early, cloudy morning in Scandinavia.  Breezy, beautiful, and enchanting are all words that could describe this track “(Won’t You Please) Tell Me Something” found below.  If you dig, check out the band’s brand new EP called Such a Shame over on bandcamp.

Oops, I Missed This: Solander

solanderMan, we got so caught up in all the great US releases the last few months that I totally forgot about the excellent new album that came out from Solander.  We were huge fans of the group a few years back when they came to SXSW, and I’m still holding a soft spot for the group.  This track illustrates the bands ability to craft solemn tunes that eventually burst forth with lofty harmonies and fade into the realm of enchanting craftsmanship.  Their latest record is titled Monochromatic Memories, and it’s available now from Tendervision.
