Great New Track From Aan

cararobbins-aan-16.144811

It’s been quite some time since I last posted about Portland based band Aan (just about a year ago) and I feel guilty as I’ve missed some major news on the band.  Just yesterday, the band dropped their brand new debut LP, Amor Ad Nauseum, via Party Damage.  To make my tardiness right, I’m sharing with you guys this new joint “Bubble Bath Bop”.  The title of the song is quite possibly the best way to describe the track prior to the first listen.  It’s a bright, jangly pop tune that’s equal parts shiny and catchy.

You can also catch this band in all their live glory during SXSW.

New Music from September Girls + SXSW

septemberWe were definitely some of the first folks to cover the dream pop of September Girls, thanks to the work of our friends at Matinee Recordings.  But, it’s high time we threw something new your way from these lovely ladies.  They’ll be releasing their album, Cursing the Sea, via Fortuna Pop on March 11th, offering up this dreamy rock that is begging for you to sink your teeth into.  And, if that wasn’t enough, the ladies will be heading our way in Austin to play a few sets at SXSW, so if you’re going to be in town, you best get acquainted with them now before they’re the next big thing.

New Jam From Holy Esque

2012HolyEsquePR240112Holy Esque is a Scottish band we discovered a couple of years ago after hearing their irresistible tunes on the interwebs.  Luckily for us, the band has decided to stop in for our little SXSW festival in March AND are giving us this new single “Silences”.  It’s yet another tune where you can feel the emotion and power behind every guitar note and vocal yell.  I’ve already got these guys near the top of my festival to watch list.  I recommend you do the same.

Noisy Number from Solids

solidsI pressed play on this tune, and immediately I was hooked.  If you love the sound of distorted guitars forcefully making their presence felt in your ears, then it’ll take you about ten seconds to fall in love with this tune from Solids. But, despite a fuzzy  bit of guitar noise, you’ll find a warmth hiding beneath the number, making it a stellar tune to kick off your week. The duo will be releasing their debut, Blame Confusion, on February 18th via Fat Possum, followed by a tour that includes some tour dates in our home for SXSW.  Trust me on this one; it’s a gem.

SxSW Music Announces Round Two

SxSW Music 2014Gary Numan. That should be cool. Could create an opportunity to have a stage full of legends and the influenced…

PR Quote:

The second round of SXSW Music Festival artist announcements is here, including a much-anticipated appearance by synth and industrial music pioneer Gary Numan.

Numan’s influence has been recognized by a diverse array of artists, including Prince, Lady Gaga, Trent Reznor, Queens of the Stone Age and Kanye West. His latest, and first full-length studio album since 2006, Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind), is bound to continue such praise, with the award-winning electro-pioneer teaming up with Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck and producer Ade Fenton for his heaviest and most accomplished album to date.

Other notable round two artists include Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, new Bella Union signing Ballet School, Talib Kweli, Quantic, Of Mice & Men, and more!

Other notables include Wye Oak, In The Valley Below, Phantogram, Typhoon, Diarrhea Planet. CLICK HERE for the big list!

First Round of SxSW Artists Released

I can not believe it is time to start thinking about SxSW. It is like the Christmas decorations at Home Depot, earlier every year.

The initial list of artists invited is out and it is a local heavy list. Not too many big acts, but I think there is something for every music fan interested in day parties and collecting wristbands. Warm up your RSVP skills, March 11, 2014 will be here before you know it. I am on four VIP lists already.

Head past the break for the big list via the PR text…

SxSW 2013: Day Party Pics

No, I am not done yet. This one and a gallery of the showcases is all that is left. If I can muster it, I’ll do a best of post. Best-ofs are easier well removed from a festival because lasting memories help define what really got you going.

Anyway, this giant gallery of daytime show goodness includes some candids and portraits from around the conference during the unofficial events. Highlights include Wax Idols, Nobunny, The Soft Moon, Criminal Hygiene, Bleeding Rainbows, that band Thurston Moore is in, Delorean and so much more.

Click through. Play a game of “oh yeah, I was there.”
