Cut Copy @ Emo’s – 9-29

If you’re not hungover from Austin City Limits, or you skipped the entire thing hoping to grab someting on the side, then you are in luck.  Electro-pop groud Cut Copy is coming to Austin, along with The Presets. This is one of those shows that most of us will miss, as we’ve been out all weekend at ACL, but we’ll hear from our friends that made it what a great show we missed.

Tickets are sold out online, but there are still tickets available at Waterloo Records.  Stop by and get you some.

The Melvins In Austin (8/22)

Two Melvins events going down on Friday we’d like to tell you about. First, the longtime rockers will be signing whatever your little heart desires at Waterloo Records around 5pm. The Waterloo website says no live music, only a signing. Shortly after the signing wraps up, The Melvins will break out the guitars and amps for the people at Emo’s Austin. Doors for the event are set for 9pm with opening act Big Business kicking the music off at 10pm. Tickets for the show are only $13 and can be had here.

Earlimart @ Waterloo/Mohawk – 8/5

California’s Earlimart will grace us twice tomorrow evening. They will first play a free set at Waterloo Records at 5 PM. Then they will be off to play a full set at The Mohawk with Austin bands Zookeeper and Silent Sunset (featuring Bill of Sound Team). I’ve seen them several times before, and they always put on an enjoyable show, and you have two chances to see them – don’t miss out.

Tickets for the Mohawk show will be sold through FrontGate Tickets.

You can also check out our review for their latest album Hymn and Her.

Brothers and Sisters @ Waterloo 7/16

Tomorrow afternoon at Waterloo Records we are fortunate to welcome local folk favorites, Brothers and Sisters, to the stage.  Of course, it’s free! They just had a CD release party for their newest album, The Fortunately LP, and odds are that you might be able to get your hands on it prior to the actual release date of August 19th; if not, then at least you can get your hands on one of those free beers that always comes with a Waterloo Instore performance. So stop by and support local business and local music.

Waterloo Video Closing

Your favorite video store in town, Waterloo Video, is closing its doors sometime in mid-august.  Sounds like they will be moving all the non-rental type videos into a newly remodeled Waterloo Record Store.  So that means Waterloo is officially out of the rental business.  Too bad.  Good news is, Video store closings = video store sales.  So pay your last respects to Waterloo video sometime in the next month and stock up on the cheap stuff.

06/23 Islands Show @ Waterloo

Islands are forever. Islands showed me at Waterloo on Monday what they were trying to do with the new album. If you read our review of their most recent album Arms Way, you know that we were kind of indifferent to the new direction the band was taking. We don’t hate the songs, but we don’t love em either. After Monday, Islands changed my mind about the album as so many bands can do when playing new material live. Read more

06/11 Shearwater Show @ Waterloo

Shearwater provided an intimate set to the crowd at Waterloo Records on Wednesday.  The venue was packed solid with Shearwater supporters who were excited to catch one more glimpse of the band before they head out on tour.   Lead singer Jonathan Meiburg started the show off right  by belting out several lines of lyrics acapela style just to make sure everyone was paying attention.  The band was spot on for their set with each member taking on a “jack of all trades” role and playing a countless number of instruments.  (Is that a flute?) Shearwater @ Waterloo Records

Austin band Shearwater will be doing a free show at Waterloo Records at 5pm this Wednesday (6/11). If you’ve read our recent review of the band’s new album Rook you probably know we are excited about this free in-store. Waterloo doesn’t do much in the way of promoting these things but you can still check out the Waterloo website for more free in stores coming up or if you just want to buy some sweet tunes. Be sure you show up early because the line starts for the free keg beer pretty early. That’s right, I said free keg beer. Do you really need another reason to go? We’ll be posting pictures of the event in the coming days.
