Fresh Electro Pop from Red Sleeping Beauty

redsleepingWell, once you’re back, you’re back, right? It looks to be the case with Red Sleeping Beauty, who haven’t slowed down once since they reconvened in 2015, including this year’s Kristina. They’ve got a brand new single coming out this week on Labrador Records, and if you don’t fall in love with this song after the first run through of the chorus, you need to see a doctor immediately. It has this careful tonal warp that softens the dance-able push from the electronic elements; I just want to play this song for everyone out there today. Have fun. Be safe. Love each other.

Christmas Pop from Rat Fancy

ratAfter leaving behind Sweater Girl, Diana Barraza began Rat Fancy, leaning towards creating a world where indiepop, shoegaze and emo all crash in a joyous bit of infectious pop music. The group are in the process of wrapping up their debut EP for HHBTM Records, so in the meantime, they’re giving out the free Christmas single you’ll find streaming below. You’ll hear hooks, jingle bells and attention to details that will leave you salivating for what the band have in store for us all in 2017. Dance Along With This New Video From Heat

heatOk, I’ll admit it, I can’t really say no to dreamy pop/rock… it’s my musical weakness, so forgive me if you’ve seen this elsewhere on the internets. Heat, out of Montreal, call themselves post-punk, but from this music video, “Lush,” it’s hard to not pick up on the dreamy new wave vibes that the band are puttingout. The track is exactly as its title suggests– overflowing with instrumentation that compliments and builds on itself. The guitar parts are interlocking and seamless, the synths chime in and out with lightness, percussion holds the groove in place, all while the vocals are hazy over the top of everything. Take a listen and watch below so you can dance through your Tuesday.

“Lush” is taken from the band’s upcoming debut, Overnight, which is out January 20th viaTopshelf Records.

New Tunes from Love Sport

lovesportI feel like you deserve this Love Sport track today, that’s if you dig great guitar jams. I can hear the slightest hint of Guided by Voices in some of the vocal notes, though they bring in a bit more angst during the chorus. Still, the emotional bounce in the verses actually has a rather uplifting affect…it hits hard with just enough melody to make the world a brighter place. Indulge yourself in a band that aims to bring you Dull Tracks (they’re anything but) once the new year breaks via Soliti. It’s a steady dosage of feel good throughout, so why wait, indulge yourself now.

More To Love From Tim Cohen

unnamed-6One of my most anticipated releases of 2017 is shaping up to be Tim Cohen‘s pure solo effort,Luck Man, which is due out, lucky for us, at the beginning of next year. We’ve already heard some great singles from the gentleman from this album, and now he’s given us another one with “Meat is Murder,” which reveals that this new album is going to be far from one dimensional. The last track we heard in “John Hughes” was a bouncy indie pop number, whereas this one, as its title suggests, is a bit darker than the last one. The guitars are a sharper, and yet lower in the mix, the percussion and bass combine for a low simmer, and Cohen’s vocals are deeper for the majority of the track. Take a listen and get as excited as I am for this new album, then go pre-order it here before its Jan. 20th release via Sinderlyn.

New John Wesley Coleman and His Top 10 KOOP Shows

jwcAs we push forward towards 2017, we’re all thinking of highly anticipated releases. One on my personal list, and that of most in-the-know Austinites, is John Wesley Coleman‘s Microwave Dreams. As he’s written more and more, he’s elevated his sound and songwriting far above what was possibly unfairly deemed as “trashcan troubadour.” He’s the songwriter you can take to your square friends, and thrill your hip friends at the same time. Elegant Folk From American Dreamer

14324314_1195097610535860_8877724612633255058_oIt’s been cloudy and dreary in Austin for the past week or so, but rumor has it that the clouds are going to break and we’re going to get back to Texas Fall/Winter–that is to say sunny and 70. I don’t know about you, but I like to match my listening choices with the weather, and this new track from American Dreamer is the perfect accompaniment to the sun coming out. “Open Your Eyes” is an orchestral folk gem that begs you to do just that; the song starts slow and washes you over with waves of strings and acoustic guitar that are will make you swoon. The vocals are breathy and delicate as the instrumentation, soft and welcoming as the track starts to warm up. All in all, it’s a gorgeous number and I’m going to be getting lost in it for the rest of the day at the very least. Take a listen.

Fresh Track from Dag

dagIn keeping with a bit of our Australian focus today, we’ve got another tune from Dag to toss out into the world. A short and sweet number, calmly flowing with deep vocal tones from the start. As the song moves along there’s a little bit of back and forth between male and female vocalists, keeping the harmony centralized as you tap your feet along to the track’s end. The usage of string arrangements in the background adds a really nice touch to boot, so give it a listen while you await Benefits of Solitude, which hits on February 24th via Bedroom Suck Records.

Powerful Vocal Performance from Timberwolf

timberI guess Australia just doesn’t stop putting out music during the holidays, so I’ll oblige them by keeping you in the loop on what’s new in Oceania. Timberwolf‘s already received some accolades on our side of the pond, and it’s sure to continue with this stunning track. While I tend to gravitate towards a more visceral vocal, the voice of Christopher Panousakis is remarkable. It lives somewhere in the world between Antony and Jeff Buckley, with a glittering production around him to accentuate his gifts. This is his second single, so expect his debut album to come early next year.

New Music from Jade Imagine

jadeDon’t you guys worry, there’s still a few great songs left to come out in 2016, like this Jade Imagine number. She’s working with Courtney Barnett’s Milk Records to release her What the Fuck Was I Thinking EP, and you can hear a few similarities in the songwriting, though I also hear a bit of a nod to Juliana Hatfield. The balance between voice and instrumentation is perfect here, giving each ample space to hold the listener’s attention. It’s a steady pop hit, and one that I think will gladly help ease you into the weekend’s slumber.
