Noisy Pop from Violent Change

vc3I have no idea how I stumbled upon this great tune from Violent Change, but I’m so glad I did! It’s this brilliant piece of noisy pop, falling some place where the worlds of Royal Headache and GBV crash. You’ll hear appropriate bits of fuzz through your speakers, but beneath it lurks this elegant melody that’s simply undeniable. I think you’re going to be stuck listening to this track all day long, as I know I can’t get enough of it. This is our first listen to the band’s new piece from their record, VC3, which is being released by Melters on September 16th. Dammit this song is amazing.

ATX Spotlight: Fresh Jana Horn Music

janaJana Horn quietly unleashed this track the other week. I say it came out quietly, as that seems to be Jana’s style, though musically, there’s far more power in the work she’s done. It seems like she’s hung up the Reservations project for now, and going it on her own. It’s a bold move, but one that fits her growth as both a songwriter and a performer. Listening to this quiet track, you can hear the power in her voice, and we’re expecting that…and more…from her forthcoming LP. She seems emboldened by her venture as asolo artist, though she still grips to that magnificent fragility in her voice. For now, she’s let this song serve as a warning of greater things to come. We look forward to hearing the magic…and we’ll keep you up to date as more news of that record comes our way.

Did You Rock Out To This New Beach Slang Video?

It’s possible in all the hustle and bustle of internet land that you somehow missed this new video for Beach Slang’s single, “Atom Bomb,” but not to worry, I’ve got you covered right here. This video/track is a short burst of energy from the band, but a righteous two minute story nonetheless. The accompanying video shows a couple in violent turmoil of highs and lows, which is the perfect match to the riotous mix of punk rock.Take a moment to watch below and rock out; it’s well worth thetime.

More New Death by Unga Bunga

deathbyStill kicking myself for not catching the live set by Death by Unga Bunga during SXSW, but at least we have these new tracks with which to spend our Friday. Their new Fight EP comes out today, and we’ve got this new track to spread around. While they’ve been branded with the modern “garage” stylings, I think you’ll hear more in common with acts that pay homage to Cheap Trick; it’s built with huge choruses and hooks that beg to be blasted at arenas (even though those days are done for rock n’ roll). This song crashes its way til the end, so enjoy yet another reason to grab the EP today from Jansen.

Even More New Black Marble

blackBy now you’ve noticed my affection for the electro-musings of Black Marble, thus when another song pops up, I’m going to share it with you. This new track has the feeling I’ve been looking for as we head into the cooler (ish) months; it’s practically bedroom pop, which very may have been the way it was recorded…and meant to be enjoyed. I also get this faintly haunted feeling from it, giving it another avenue to be explored during my listening excursion. We’re still a good solid month out from It’s Immaterial, which is the new LP being released by Ghostly on October 14th.

growthLooks like the Swedish label, Lazy Octopus Records, is going to be my new “it” label…just wrote about Lion’s Den last week, and now they’ve got this great smoky bit of not-pop for you to enjoy from Growth. Guitar here’s kept to a minimum, angular shaking in the background whilst the vocalsunfold in a smoky haze; the latter half of the track sees all musical notes taking on a more discordant vibe. This song features on the group’s upcoming Colour Cut & Clarity EP, which is being released by the label on what’s quickly becoming a packed release day, September 16th.

ATX Spotlight: Golden Tunes from Golden Graves

goldengravesThe world of shoegaze and the like is growing in Austin, which makes me really happy. Just last week Golden Graves released another delightful sample of what’s going on in the scene with their Be Safe EP (recorded by Miles Randall). The five tracks within combine these glittery guitar chords coated in dense distortion as the vocals flourish just beneath the mix. Think your day is best suited to spinning through these tracks below a few times over; it’s probably best if you turn them up just loud enough to hear your speakers crackle.

Heart Beach LP Kiss Your Face July2016 PRINT READYIn case you haven’t heard of Heart Beach, they’re probably one of the great Oceanic exports…not from Sydney or Melbourne…they’re from Tasmania. They’ve slowly begun to unleash a few tracks from their forthcoming record, Kiss Your Face, and I think you deserve to spend a little bit of time with the group today. They trade male/female vocals throughout many of the album’s tracks, and ultimately leave you thirsting for more tunes. One of the tracks below popped up on a 7″ in March, but there’s a brand new one here to get you in the mood. Look for the LP to hit on November 11th via Spunk Records.

Another Great Tune from Cheap Girls

cheapgirlsNot sure I realized quite how much I loved Cheap Girls until they announced their God’s Ex-Wife, a collection of rarities and B-Sides. Every song they’ve offered is really great, sounding like the softer underbelly in classic alternative rock. They’ve got distorted guitars with solos, catchy melodies and crashing cymbals; it’s not out of the ordinary, but the execution seems to make every song memorable. All I can say is these tracks sound like the perfect thing to turn up loud and drive around the neighborhood, smiling all the way. Asian Man Records is releasing the collection on September 16th.
