Day & Dream Share Spooky 2

Wanted to ease you into your Tuesday morning with something that feels like waking up out of a deep slumber, which is where we find Day & Dream on their latest single. The ambient wash blankets the tune with the disorienting textures of dream pop, but its the movement beneath in the mix that really has me enjoying myself. Subtle drum rolls fill in the empty space as ethereal vocals spread out across the song’s vast landscape they’ve created. And, if you let the song drift with you, there’s this bombastic exit as the song draws near, allowing the band to illustrate their musicianship as they top of the tune with a little punch.

About Last Night – ATH vs SOTO @ Vegas

Your friendly neighborhood ATH staff kicked off our SXSW yesterday with the recently reborn ATH vs. Side One Track One party at Hotel Vegas in East Austin. We had a packed house from the time doors opened until things closed down a little after 1am. Hopefully everyone stayed safe out there and got home without incident to start off the week on a high note.

After the jump you can find a few quick thoughts and photos from our team.

Last Week’s Jams (3.6 – 3.10)

We covered tons of territory last week, particularly as we ran tons of little interviews in our Meet the SXSW Band features; it’s also the Spring season, so that means there are tons of announcements about new records and such. I was stoked to hear new stuff from Constant Follower and Mary Onettes, plus we premiered new tune from The National Honor Society and Hot Coppers. And, seeing as its SXSW, we got interviews back from Daiistar, Taleen Kali, Hamish Hawk and a ton more, all with little introductions plus their music. Or, you can listen to the jams below and see if they’re playing near you, wherever you find yourself!

Meet The SXSW Band: Fishbone

We have finally arrived at the end of our SXSW interview previews and we saved maybe the biggest and most well known act for last. Los Angeles based Fishbone has been making music for longer than most of us on the ATH crew have been alive and we were elated when the legends agreed to take part in our silliness. Huge thanks to the band and to their team for allowing this to happen. That’s a wrap. Hit the jump for all the usual information.

SXSW 2023 Playlist

SXSW 2023 is here peeps, and your friendly ATH crew is here once again to try and prep you for what lies ahead. If you’re struggling to pair down recommendations and highlights for the massive amount of artists coming into town, maybe a playlist will help? It features roughly 50-60 bands who come recommended from myself and the ATH team. With so many bands to choose from, feel free to hit shuffle and skip anything you aren’t feeling. When something catches your ear, our pals at Show List Austin still gather the best for unofficial parties and the official SXSW schedule will you show you everything for wristband and badge holders.

Pynch Share London Video

When I think about the sound’s that London’s Pynch are crafting, it feels like they’re rooted in the New York scene of the early 00s, specifically anything with James Murphy’s hands on it. There’s that underlying pulse that feels like it’s ready to explode at any moment and drop a hook that’ll stick for days. But, rather than delve into the easy path of build and release, the band let the song sort of shimmer on the edges, holding onto the release to let the song explore the edges of pop territories. If you’re digging on it, the band release Howling at a Concrete Moon on April 14th.

Meet The SXSW Band: Wild Child

We are down to the last few days around the ATH offices before we wind down and head out into the madness that is SXSW next week. Prior to that, it seems fitting for one of our last interviews to be from Austin indie legends Wild Child. They’ve been around the scene for what seems like ages now and we were super pumped for them to answer our interview questions. Hit the jump for interview, music and show dates.
