New Music from Dana Falconberry

Alright, so I’m a few weeks behind on this gem from Austinite Dana Falconberry, but better late than never right? Dana will be releasing her latest album Leelanau on October 12th, and if it sounds anything like this tune below, it’s going to win her a huge following.  Her guitar is quiet, almost muted, but her incredible voice really warms you over.  Her playfulness in the middle of the track helps differentiate this number from your average fare, but that’s what I’ve come to expect from Falcoberry’s work.  It’s such an intimate listen, and one that’s ultimately rewarding. Hoping it makes its way onto your playlist.

Location Stubb’s
Doors 1000 pm
Tickets $8 @ the Door

I know there’s some great shows going on this Friday, but one that everyone that claims to support the Austin scene needs to be at is the Eastern Sea album Release over at Stubbs. Their new album, Plague, is something I know that everyone will enjoy, crossing boundaries of indie rock and forging into well-crafted mass appeal.  This is definitely one of the Austin bands that’s on the rise, so come support the group before they hit the road.  And of course, if you show up early you get to see another solid Austin (via Michigan) artist, Dana Falconberry, who’s always worth your top dollar.

Show Pics: Father John Misty @ The Mohawk (5/26)

The day after Ty and Suckers, I “had to” go to The Mohawk to see Father John Misty with Har Mar Superstar and Dana Falconberry.

It was a very contrasting set of bands. Dana Falconberry‘s solemn folk melody gave way to Har Mar‘s jams and cock buffet invites led to J. Tillman’s mix of the two. To PYAITK, Father John Misty is J Tillman‘s project after leaving Fleet Foxes. He also played drums for Har Mar during their run out on the road.

It was a strange evening. And I got a decent Har Mar headstand pic, finally…

In a busy week for our rock n’ roll community, this seems like a great place to start off with previews, unless you catch ATDIMegafaun has quietly been making a name for themselves with their gentle brand of folk rock–and we’ve love every bit of it. Their self-titled album from the fall of last year received some great praise all over the Internet, and it should say something that they’ve been chosen to pack Mohawk right after the Hold Steady finishes. Also on the bill for the evening is Field Report and Dana Falconberry, designed to perfectly whet your appetite for the Faun.  Come on, it’s time for us all to get out and take in the great music we’re so privileged to have come into town.

Austin A2W: Dana Falconberry

danafalconberryIf you have yet to hear Dana Falconberry sing, please go out and do so immediately.  She has arguably the best and most entrancing voice of any female singer currently residing in this town.  Hell she has one of the best voices I’ve heard from a lady regardless of location in a long time.  Having lived in this fine city for over 4 years now, it’s shocking that we have yet to come across this fine singer/songwriter until now.  Well, in all truth, we heard Dana’s voice a few years ago when she collaborated with Peter & The Wolf mastermind Red Hunter on his lo-fi folk masterpiece Lightness, but we never knew she had a solo career.  Now in 2010 Dana has released a debut EP, a follow up LP, and now prepares the release of another LP Halletts.  A preview of this new material “Nightingale” can be listened to below.  If you like what you hear, head on over to Mohawk on Thursday for a CD release party put on by Dana and her band to celebrate the release of her upcoming LP.  Entrance only costs $7.  Doooooo it.
