We tend to cover a lot of stuff, and well, sometimes we don’t get the dedicated album review or streams, but today I had a spare minute, so I wanted to throw up some great album streams for you, all from bands who we’ve covered recently. They’ve al dropped releases in the last two weeks, and this is a great way for you to spend your time, if you haven’t already done so, or planned to do so!

We continue our regular scheduled programming here to promote Eerie Wanda, as a fresh single, and the last before Internal Radio drops at the end of next month. This song’s a masterful bit of craft, toying with your ears the entire way through. Musically it’s almost absent, utilizing a muted beat and a bit of an ambient synth wash to build this bit of soundscape for the vocals. Ethereal to begin, the track eventually latches onto the pulse beneath letting the vocals push your experience further. A heavy vocal, then floating angelic tones wafting by, then the speakers seem to play tricks with your mind…an angel on this shoulder, one on that shoulder, rising and falling; this is the light that shines through the end of the tunnel, warm and beckoning. Internal Radio is out on September 23rd via Joyful Noise.

Eerie Wanda Share Long Time Video

We’re just about a month away from the release of a new LP from Dutch outfit Eerie Wanda, and this new single is the sort of cathartic slow dance you need on a Monday morning. Listening through this tune, my brain feels like this is the internal soundtrack to Sandra Bullock’s brain during Gravity…it’s just this beautiful drifting piece, and while it may be frightening and painted darkly, there’s this stunning elegance that sweeps you up in its passing. If you’re looking for escapism, then Marina Tadic beckons; Eerie Wanda will release Internal Radio on September 23rd via Joyful Noise.

Ben Shemie Shares the Return Single

Ben Shemie, known for his work in SUUNS, has a new solo record dropping really soon, and his latest single just keeps toying with me as I put it on repeat. Sure, the light effects on the video are something altogether anxiety inducing, but I keep coming back to the tune because it so brilliantly builds this tension…that you’ll have to read on to find out if it comes to fruition. The beat races from the beginning, an electronic line that has that futuristic pulse to it; it’s then textured by a synthetically sterile drum beat. All of this allows Shemie to spread his manufactured melody atop the groove; there are some sonic stretches in the voice that build the sound. For me, I kept waiting for it to release, for something satisfying and heavy to drop into the frame. But, it doesn’t, and I think that restraint is why I keep coming back, sitting in the presence of the tune all on its own. Desiderata will be released on July 15th via Joyful Noise/Backward Music.

Oneida Return With Latest Single

It seems like my posts this week are sticking with the more upbeat, rock n roll vibes. No song truly epitomizes my current tastes better than this new one called “Beat Me to the Punch” from NYC based outfit Oneida. It has a true indie rock theme to start, but then builds into this gnarly and gritty guitar solo which matches the “Punchy” name of the track. I’ve had it on repeat this morning and I’m thinking you may do the same.

This track appears on Oneida’s new album Success due out August 19th on Joyful Noise.

Constant Follower Share Weave of the World

We’re starting to move into those cooler evenings (you know, dropping to the low 90s), so stumbling into the latest from Constant Follower seems the perfect way to move into the Fall. For starters, we don’t have to wait before we meet the careful craft of Stephen McAll; he offers himself to the listener, laying his soul before us. He drapes it all over this mild-mannered guitar work, leaving plenty of space in the song’s middle for us all to take stock of our lives and what we’ve got going around us. This song appears on Neither Is, Nor Ever Was, which drops in October via Shimmy Disc/Joyful Noise.

SUUNS Share The Trilogy

The more I get to hear from the latest LP from SUUNS, the more I begin to believe it’s likely to get a lot of play around the old Lankford household. On their latest, the song slow burns, much like the image in the video clip, led by this mellowed vocals and understated beat. It’s definitely an atmospherically induced vibe that courses through, and for the faintest moment, you get this cool drop in at 2:40-ish that gives you just a bit of a toe-tap and bounce; I found it to be a nice touch that breaks up the song’s core. Their album The Witness is out on Friday via Joyful Noise!

SUUNS Share Clarity Single

I’ll come out and say that today I’m approaching life with a little bit of trepidation and anxiety, so I kind of need something that moves me in and out of consciousness, both visually and audibly, which is why this new SUUNS tune is perfect. Visually, well, you can see the color pink moving in and out of the tune; it seems like an eye, looking in or out on the world. Musically, this tune’s really stripped back, with this light beat being manipulated to match up with the vocals, while some other synthetic (or is it or horns or both!) notes surf in and out of the background to build in some texture for you. If you’re willing to let your mind drift, I can’t imagine a better way than this; this single appears on the band’s new record, The Witness, out September 3rd via Joyful Noise.

J Fernandez Brings You Perfect Bedroom Pop

J Fernandez will be releasing what will surely be a lovely collection of pristine pop this Friday via Joyful Noise, and just dropped a new track/video for “Volcanic Winter.” This song shows off how subtleties are Fernandez’ game and he is indeed the master of said game. A simple bass line and easy drum beat greet you before the track really launches in on its covert attack on your attention. You get some gentle twangy guitar and then a squeal of synth rises in sound and Fernandez’ vocals enter. His vocals have this warm, yet hollow, quality to them; you hang on every word as he paints a picture of a desolate landscape. These twinkling synths patter in and out of the heavily layered mix, and you’re simply hooked. It’s a grand track that presents itself meekly at your feet–prepare for repeated listening.

Loving This New J Fernandez

The end of the year is rapidly approaching, which means we’ve got to get our year-end list started! But, before we go that route, there’s still a few solid releases hanging on in 2018, like this forthcoming LP from J Fernandez. It has this timeless blend of classic pop arrangements, and structures, with some psychedelic guitar touches bringing the kids back to the table. There are some electronic elements that create the perfect cocoon to wrap around J’s melodies, and in such a way that there’s just a hint of oddity, so you’re guaranteed to steer clear of run of the mill. Occasional Din will be out on November 9th via Joyful Noise.
